Need detector purchasing advice

I was posting here hoping I could get some suggestions from those of you who have some knowledge on different types of metal detectors. I want to buy my husband a new metal detector for Christmas but I don't have the first clue as to what one to get. Over the past year he has really gotten in to relic hunting and does so several times a week, a lot on the weekends. I'm not sure what type of detector he has right now but I know it was fairly inexpensive and I would assume a beginners type. I've heard him say he'd like one that would detect a lot deeper and something about being able to detect different metals better.

We live in the South and he has some really great places to hunt and has found some neat stuff but I know he could do more if he had a better detector.

Any and all suggestions and advice is much appreciated!

"Whites XLT" is a great machine for the price (about $750 or so)
Minelab makes some great ones too at a good price....It all depends on how much you want to spend...
Good luck , and it never hurts to ask him what he would like...

talk to Dave @ Dixie metal detectors....I'm sure he will get ya on the right track ! http://www.dixie-metal-detectors.com/

I would, (being a Man myself), ask him what model/brand he wanted that would make it a lot better than getting something he really didn't want. We can all give you suggestions as to what our opinion is (mine would be a Whites MXT) but it should be what he wants and he has his own reasons why he wants it. Hope you consider this (being a man myself) I know we have our little quirks about details. Hope you have a Merry Christmas I know your Hubby is.

The Tesoro Vaquero ($420) or Tejon ($560). I have a Vaquero, and love it. These are super deep machines.
