Need authorization to detect in New Zealand?

Hi,

I will go to New Zealand for 6 months,
can we use detector on the beachs of New Zealand (in New Plymouth)?
I hesitat to take my Explorer XS or GQ SS?

Thanks.

I worked outside of New Plymouth for 6 weeks back in '84. Very friendly folks - Kiwis like Americans. I never did any detecting but did get to the beaches - nobody will bother you but be warned that all the sand is black which may be problematic for certain detectors.
Just remember what I forgot - their seasons are reverse of ours. I went in July and froze my tail off.

of Christchurch for 18 mths or so - no problems
Some of the beaches down here are mineralised though
good luck!
John
