Hi everybody! Just moved to Virginia Beach - always wanted to take up MDing. So what do you recommend for a first machine?

Obviously waterproof for the beach/bay work. Water resistant won't make it as I will manage to get the machine wet eventually.

I'd like to stay in around $500. Costco has some bounty hunters online, not sure if any are water units. All suggestions are appreciated. Anybody know of anyplace to rent units to try them out?

Thanks, DonnaJo

if you are going to hunt salt water, you need a multi frequency detector.detectors that operate on 1 frequency don't do well in wet salt sand! they work fine in dry sand,id say buy a Excalibur or a Beach Hunter ID,or a CZ20,or better yet wait till the New CZ21 comes out next month.the Sovereign is hard to beat but don't get the control box wet! if you are like me it wont be long till you want to go into the surf so you better choose a water proof unit! good luck.
