Need another freshwater detector any suggestions?

Jay hawk

Looking at getting another detector. Strictly for freshwater. I have a TigerShark right now. I live in Canada and its not that quick to get one shipped in so I would like to have a spare in case something happens to it. I was wondering what people would suggest. I think I am just looking for a backup to the TigerShark, but what would you guys suggest as a backup or as a better alternative for freshwater.
Thank you kindly
Jay

From what I understand the CZ21 is a tank of a machine and good at what it does in the water. I don't know if they are as sensitive to small gold ( chains ) as the Tiger or the Stingray I run personally Seems not alot of machines like to bang on the gold chains. But from every account I have read ( been looking into another one too ) the CZ is hard to beat for build quality and abilities in the drink.

I have also found myself looking at the Whites BHID 300 and the Garrett AT pro but the ATP won't handle use with a hookah system , still not decided on anything though.

Good luck with your decision,

Lakota

Thanks for the comments. I have been kinda eyeing up the fisher 1280x and the cz21. But also wonder for a couple hundred more if I should go for a Excalibur. But have not heard much if any on a Excalibur in freshwater. I had a Atpro and didn't care for it in the water.

Dude...you need to seriously revisit the AtPro for freshwater...just dont run it too hot...run it Pro mode 40 disc and at least 2 or 3 clicks down from top dead sens..with iron audio off if you have to...
I'd get a CZ 21 for the salt or freshwater diving were it me..I had a CZ20 before it took a crap and it was alright...A few guys i hunt with use the Excal here in the fresh, and they do dang good, but for the speed simplicity and money for fresh water, that Pro is very hard to beat...

I would agree with Mudpuppy...I run an AT Pro and it's not a bad machine. Takes time to get used to and altough I am building another water machine, it gets the job done. Ive pulled a ton of stuff with it and it works pretty well in freshwater. Ive heard otherwise for saltwater but needless to say it can pay for itself in no time.

Mudpuppy really really brings up a good point. ATpro is totally viable. 1280x, its something you could use. But, what if you wanted to hunt on land? ATpro is the way to go. Cheaper. Better warranty, and will out do the 1280. If you dive, grab 1280. If you can find a cheap 1280 over ATpro, grab it. Otherwise, pick up an at pro dude. hh an gl Jow

Ive thought about the Atpro again but I just felt there screen was just set up for problems under water.my old one had to be returned for water getting in and a bad coil. I will not be doing any diving and am just seeing what other options are out there.

Hello Lakota,
Would you please elaborate on this statement? I Have an AT Pro and am building a Hookah. Do you mean because the shafts won't break down into something very short?
Thanks, mac

Atpro would be a versatile machine, hands down,Hank

The ATPro is a 6' deep rated detector if I recall right ( haven't owned one yet). I have a few spots in mind where the float lines are 10' to 15' deep ( and folks love to hang out on them). These depths would exceed this machines max rated depth. My Tesoro Stingray is rated for 200' and the CZ20/21s are 250' rated. Not saying the ATPro won't work with a hookah system, I just lean towards the safe road when my machines are concerned.

This is what I was reffering to with my post.

Good luck and stay safe out there,

Lakota

I think you'd be disappointed with the 1280. Depth isn't in the same league as your Tiger Shark. Why not get a second Tiger Shark. Great freshwater detector.

I would say get a used 1280X. They are bulit like a tank and in freash water you will get good preformance. They can be found cheap also since they have been on the market so long. I bought one off of Ebay for 250.00 with a hard case a few years ago. Worked great.

That's what I'm thinking but open to options

I've heard good things about them.

a los banos original will sell for 400 to 500 easy. newer used ones almost same. a nice yardsale who knows
