Need advice

I relic hunt and would like GPS with the best/most detailed topo maps you could get.

I would like to be able to walk through the woods and mark the trench lines from civil war battles every 50 feet or so on the maps and perhaps then upload them back up to the computer.

I think I i acturately mapped all the trench lines I could pinpoint the most likely places to hunt.

Garmin, Lowrance and Magellan topo maps for the USA are pretty good and about the same in detail.
Saying that, I like the way Garmin and Lowrance presents their maps - the detail is nicely changing with the zoom level. Fair overview, even on small screen.
The maps are most readable on colour screens and the larger screen, the better.
Topo maps can take a fair bit of memory so look for a unit with large build in memory or one that is using memory cards.
The rest depends a lot on the budget.
