Need advice!

I've been detecting for over 25 years started when i was in my 20's but lately i have neen wanting to water hunt so got a real good deal on a nice Tesoro Tiger Shark with the 8 inch coil does anyone have any expierence with this unit and if so i would love too get some advice on using.in the water like set up and ground balancing ( im still not sure on how to ground balance this unit) im going to be doing more fresh water searching then salt so any help i would appreciate. Used that unit in Lake Michigan and it worked OK except for the constant false signaling caused by the connector and the water.
Like most single freq VLF detectors, It wont work in saltwater very well.
There are adjustments that are inside the waterproof box ... read the manual.

I would recommend you use it for a while then trade it toward a Fisher CZ-21 or a Fisher 1280X.

You say "like most single frequency won't work salt water" and recommend a CZ-21 (dual) or 1280x: however it is a single frequency-like his current unit. (An Excalibur is a good choice too.)
Point of fact if the ground mineral is not bad then the single can do a very good job in salt. If a unit has a salt mode (may be selectable) it helps to eliminate the salt effect, while
the ground balance takes out the mineral. On a beach with no magnetite a single can be as deep as a multi. And the lower the frequency to 0 the better the cancellation of salt and mineral.
(The 1280 at 2.45 kHz in the VF range is very good at this.)
Dual frequency machines can ground balance two channels, one salt, one for mineral. But start adding in magnetite-black sand or basalt and you reach a point where VLF's don't work.
That is where a P.I. is brought in.

I have a Tiger Shark that I got last summer to go in the water. I thought that it would be easy for me in the water, but my 71 year old body didn’t like it. The Tiger Shark work great on land and found several rings with it.

Vlad .... it is my understanding that all Fisher CZ series detectors use dual frequency's not single.

However, since the OP stated that most of his shallow water hunting would be in fresh water I recommended the Fisher 1280X.

As time moves on detectors improve and there are a lot of great machines available for the fresh water hunter now.
Garrett AT series, White,s MX Sport, The new Minelab Equinox, and a few others have brought the price way down for a water proof detector.
The OP would not go wrong with any of these.

The fisher 1280x is a single frequency detector runhing at 2.4 khz.

I also stated a 1280 and other singles will work in fresh, or salt water too, and why.

They certainly do......i used to use a whites M6 at the beach with great success,even on the wet sand.

The Fisher 1280 is pretty darn old technology. I've had a 1280 and it was a decent freshwater detector but the Tesoro Tiger Shark IMHO is a much better freshwater detector.
