Need advice

My husband recently sold a detector to a guy. He has sold numerous items and
has had no negative feedback and goes out of his way to make sure his items being shipped are packed well and solid.
The guy who bought the detector was told its condition and received numerous pics.
Well we sold it shipped it. When the customer got it, he sent pics back saying it was a bad unit. It was obvious that he tried to alter
the detector and in the process screwed up some of the critical parts. Now he is sending it back without
first asking and wants a complete refund plus additional shipping. It is now going to cost us about $200.00
to repair the detector. What advice can anyone give as to what we should do. I don't feel it right to suffer the loss since the buyer
made changes to it.

This could be a local dealer of the detector in question. Why would you want to
accept a broken detector?

I always attempt to make the person buying from me happy. That being said there are limits.. If he altered a perfectly working detector, made it inoperable then it's his..No refunds would be given. In fact if he sent it back I would suggest refusing the shipment (If you know for a fact it's been altered)... or having him send a call tag for return if it's been sent back. If....the detector was altered in any way before shipping to him on the original sale..then by all means refund their money.....You the seller would not be expected to refund for a detector he messed up..One other solution..have him send the detector to repair facility make it look, and operate as it did when you sold it..Refund his money after confirmation from competent repair facility it is 100%.

Thanks Elton,
We went over the pics we sent to the buyer and the pics he sent us back. It is so obvious that it was altered after he received it.
It has been shipped back but is somewhere in transit. We go out of our way to ensure a quality product is shipped in a timely manner and
the best packaging we can. I really don't understand why someone would stoop this low.
Thanks for the replies.

Did you record the serial number of the detector you sent ?? He might be sending back a different detector that was messed up ...same model.

I had that happen years ago..A guy removed serial number from mine, put it on his, and tried to return it.. Said it wasn't the detector he thought he was buying.

Needless to say.He did not get a refund from me... I took the package back to post office and said it was sent by error (Unsolicited merchandise) and to return to sender... "They Did"..

Inside was a nice explanation of why he was getting his detector back... along with a County Sheriff Business card.. telling him to contact them for further discussion. I heard no more from that clown.
