i am going to buy a water machine this spring! any suggestions???? fresh and saltwater use. i am considering a cz21, sandshark, tigershark. i will most likely buy used and as cheap as possible. please go into detail with any advice you can give,

Hello seeker, there are 3 units to consider, that will perform well in both fresh and salt environments. Excal, CZ21 and BHID. The coil selection should be 8", imo. My thoughts are that the fresh water in particular will be especially trashy and you will be well served, by the better target separation. There is no 8" coil available for the BHID(that I'm aware of), so that ranks it to 3rd, imo. The Excal flat outperforms the CZ, as I used one (although mine was 10.5"-should have bought the 8"), it did not give the results I expected. That leaves the Excal 800, as the #1 selection for you. This ain't gunna be cheap initially, but if you stay in the game (and many don't), you will reap a harvest that will catapult you over your indebtedness. Best of luck to ya mate.

iv hunted around lake Erie ..trash not bad at the beach's...iv owned all of the one's you have listed and more..id say #1 would be the Excal.i like it for the tone ID...my 2nd choice and about 1/2 the price is the Tiger Shark..it will find small gold the Excal wont but does not have tone ID. that would be the only 2 id consider.good luck.

I've got a CZ20 and a Sandshark. I got both used. If I am manly in the wet and dry sand and there is a lot of iron on a beach, I go CZ20. If not much iron the Sandshark balances better and I can swing it a lot longer before I am worn out.

In the water both work great and with the buoyancy, I can stay in the water as long as I want if it is relatively calm. If it is getting rough, the CZ volume is much louder and can be heard above the waves. The Sandshark starts getting a little hard to hear when there is a lot of noise.

If I could only keep one, it would be the CZ because of the discrimination. I have not used an Excalibur yet, but as you see above, a lot of positive things get said about it.

i prefer the minelab excallibur. if you ever decide to take a trip to a salt water beach you wont regret owning the excall.super stable and deep in all conditions. i live here in north florida. i grew up in akron oh. i have releatives that live on lake erie. and in the sandusky area. my parents met while working at cedar point. i havnt hunted in that area for 25 yrs or so... but lots of history there.... good luck!!!!
