I find myself with not many non pounded sites to detect lately.

I do have a lot of areas near me with Old Homesite land, and foundations that I can get access to.

What detector do you guys who do a lot of this type detecting use ?? I am finding the Minelab Se pro isn't working as well as I would like.

Weed growth, plowed uneven lands..All the things the FBS detectors doesn't do well in that type land..

If you have time, please give me some ideas for a detector that does work well in the above listed enviroments. I know the F75's do well with Bp mode, but I was thinking something less expensive.

Thank you, appreciate your time.

You might take a look at the AT-Pro. I use mine in these areas a lot withe 8.5X11 coil. It has good depth, seperation and a fast RD.

White's M6 with the coil type of your choice for whatever situation . The M6 compliments my Explorer SE and standard T2 .You can get a nice used one close to the $400 range .I really like mine .

If you are doing the old foundation sites where thre is alot of trash...especially iron....I have used them all...and in min ( and most others) the Gold Bug Pro beat every other detector quite handily. used it cellar holes I pounded with every other machine and it picked quite afew coins and buttons out that the others had a hard time easily identifying as good target mixed in the iron trash.

The target recovery speed of the GB Pro is above everything else accept maybe an Omega. It also does a very very good job in field hunting. It is a single or two tone machine which is all you can use in a trashy foundation usually. n the field if it isn't iron it is coming up so ID is not as important.

So many people have taken to the GB Pro for these reasons.

To me the Minelab xplorers are laborious in trashy iron...not that they don't work but why use one when you have choices that make it so much easier. Save the SE for where it works best and get a machine that excels in trash.

I like my AT-Pro in those conditions. If the trash is heavy or the brush is thick the 5x8 coil is great. The advantage of not worrying about rain is a plus as well.

Hi Elton,
Of all the detectors I have, and have used in the past, if I were to recommend just one for the type of hunting you want to do, it would be the Gold Bug Pro. I imagine you will be digging a lot of iron anyway (if only to remove it), so the 11" DD coil will (should) give you plenty of depth. The T2 sounds as if it might be okay in your proposed conditions too, but I dont have one, and haven't used one, so I cant say from my own experience. If I were going to hunt where you are going to hunt, the first 2 detectors I would pick (for myself) would be my Gold Bug Pro and my Tesoro Eldorado (Umax). Good luck, and HH. Pete

Elton, I have the Omega as you know. Its good in iron. However some pretty experienced detectorists like Keith Southern like the AT Pro, especially in iron. Plus I think in the long run a general purpose machine like the AT Pro will serve you better than a iron specific one like the GB. My 2 cents. However, the Omega's 5" DD coil is a bit deeper than the AT Pro's small coil.
You've asked one of the tougher metal detecting questions, my friend.....lol:)
I forgot to add...get something where you can turn off the highest levels of discrimination to prevent the iron wrap around effect...the Omega does not have this capability ( I really wish it did)...I don't know if the AT Pro allows this to be done.
