could someone give some input on the -2/-4/-6/-8.... Maybe explain what the diff is between the readings. What get disc out at -2 compared to -8.ect...cant go outside to test due to snow and frigid weather at this time...thanks in advance

The ground conditions will have a more noticeable affect on the the -2 & -8. Let's start with -8, this is the large iron area, but also depending on the ground conditions can exhibit certain beneficial behaviors. i.e. I have a saltwater beach with moderate black sand conditions that is littered with iron/steel scale in sizes & shapes of a quarter to a half-dollar. These miserable junk pieces ID as a high coin on every detector I have used over the years, except the X70/X705. There is a telltale wrap from -8 to high coin on the X-Terras that allow me to not dig these. Otherwise land hunting -8 is big iron.

-2, this can be tiny non-ferrous, i.e. small gold chain, microscopic aluminum etc depending on ground conditions. But it is usually very small iron, rusted shoe tacks would be an example.

-4 & -6 is usually the nail area and other similar sized rusty items.

Thanks. Have to hunt in near future on prison grounds. Will be looking for home made weapons hidden in the ground. Maybe should hunt in all metal. Knew the cz units better when I hunted before on prison grounds.

That's a real good run down on negative(-) numbers Bill! I did not know that micro tiny non-ferrous items can cross the line into -2?

Sonny, when looking for buried weapons in a prison ground, some shanks can be buried stuck vertically into the ground with camo(burlap, cloth material, etc.) looking vegetation-grass attached to the handle, making the shank handle that is sticking partly out of the ground look like a tuft of grass, dandelion, etc.

With the 70(5) you can knotch reject or knotch accept numbers at will, to whatever you want. For example, I was once looking for a metal property peg-pin that read -4, so I blocked(rejected) out ALL other numbers below and above that, and ONLY accepted -4. It worked excellent and I found it.

I cannot imagine using anything but all metal to hunt prison grounds. I definitely would not discriminate anything out. They would have no coins, but any metal could and would be used to make a shank.

I personally would dig everything and try to clean the place out. Then on going back anything found would probably be contraband.

Sonny depending on what type targets you are after and the ground conditions you are hunting in notching in -2 and -8 can be very beneficial as BB indicated. If you like to hear it all my advice is to at most only notch out the worst iron offender at a site. Usualy this is -4 or -6. It makes for a quieter ride and the amount of nulling in the threshold can indicate when you are in bad iron that requires adjusting the sensitivity down for best see thru. That always worked for me.
