Need Advice On Coil Selection

Prospector

New member
I have a Bandido II with the stock 8" brown open center coil. I really like this machine and it does a really good job. I am considering buying another coil to try and squeeze a little more depth out of it. I am leaning toward either the 9x8 or the 10x12. Can anyone tell me how much more depth I can expect over the stock coil with each of these? I was told the 10x12 would give me the most, but am a little worried about the size and weight. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have both coils. The only time I use a 10X12 is in a field or area that doesn't have a lot of metal. As far as depth, if you are cache or relic hunting it does get good depth. I don't use it for coins or jewelry because it is heavier and I don't really get any more depth than the 9X8, plus it masks more. The 9X8 may get you an extra inch or two I don't know. My Bandido with the 8" was pretty deep and seemed a little lighter than the 9X8, but the 9X8 seems easier to work with because of it being elliptical.

The 12 x 10 will give you the greatest increase in depth. Before the Tejon came out the B2 was my choice of machine and I used the big coil. The 9 x 8 will give a bit more depth than the 8" round, maybe an inch, where as you will get 2-3 more inces with the 12 x 10. This depends on your soil conditions, of course.

I would like to try a 10 x 12 just for increased surface area for faster scan of larger fields.

I've used the 10X12 on fairly clean area for coverage. Works well for that purpose. Really isn't all that bad to swing as to weight etc. in my opinion.
