Need advice on a site to hunt.

I am using the Ace 250 and I don't have a ton of experience yet in detecting. My wife's grandmother lives next door to us in a big old six bedroom farm house that is at least 125 years old if not more and she said I can come over anytime I want to go detecting. She even claims that her husband who has passed away buried $50K somewhere in the yard....I think she is messing with me on that one! My question is, are there certain areas that I should be hunting around the home? She told me where the old out house used to be, a large bush grows there now. I went there yesterday for a hour and found a couple of areas that someone must of buried broken bottles under a tree. I found a part of a old tea cup that had like a pearl type finish. If anyone has any advice for me, that would be great. There is also a old barn that is about ready to fall down and another foundation that used to be a barn a long time ago there as well.

Draw a sketch of all the buildings, foundations and such. Grid around the existing buildings, barn, and foundations a good 3 sweeps out. Start marking the locations you have worked on your "treasure map". Hit the well used areas first, slowly grid the rest over time. Good luck, your bound to find some kind of goodies.

I like to grid old properties...theres no rhyme or reason as to how, when or where things get lost....I do like to detect along walkways and lanes ...there are lots of people here with lots more experience than I however and I will be interested to hear their advice...you have a great machine and it will not disappoint you...HH

Leave no part of that area not swept. You never know what could be at a place like that. Take your time and don't rush it. If the ground seems clean without a lot of trash, you might want to put the YF in all metal. Get a hit.....DIG DIG DIG!!!!:detecting:

1. Check for a hen house! They haven't invented a better burlar alarm and farmers would often hide their money there. The barn qulifies as well.
2. The age of the place would indicate a dug well and money would be hidden in there. An old cistern is a place to look also.
3. Under the clothesline is a place to look. Money falling from pockets and mother could hide her butter and egg money in the ground. No one would notice while she hanging up clothes.
4. Anywhere in the line of sight from the kitchen window. Mother could keep her eyes on her money.
5. Under large trees near the edge of fields or in them. The workers would take a break under them.
6. Garbage service wasn't available at the time the house was built and they usually had a seperate dump/pit. Bottles and such could be worth more than the coins you find.
7. Anywhere people would have gathered. Front, back or side yards.

Hope this help and posts your finds here so we can see. Don't throw anything away until you know for sure it is junk.
