Need advice for 1270 hunting "hot" soil

I have a friend who just got a Fisher 1270. It's a brand new machine but she had to send it back to Fisher to be repaired once. She got it back and it seems to be performing ok now. She wants to hunt her land. I've been over there with my F5 and I noticed it's a lot of hot soil there. My F5 gets "chatty". I can tune it out and hunt ok with the F5. I know nothing about a 1270 though. Anybody out there have any advice on what setting she should be using for the 1270 in hot soil? I told her she's has a top of the line machine but she's getting discouraged. Her land is a good spot to hunt. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks! :)

the only thing is that you can do is run in all metal and use the ground balance feature and run like that or disc level run about 1-3 on sens and at that level running the stock coil should still find stuff 6-8 " ok but and another thing might have to run silencer to if the above still doe'snt help, tell her don't give up on it it's a super machine once you get the hang of it!

Thank you amcjavelin!! I will pass it along. I've always heard good things about the 1270. I'm sure once past the learning curve it's gonna be an awesome machine.

Maybe it's not hot soil. I talked to my friend and she was telling it sounds like static all the time. I told her I didn't think this was right. I told her to make sure the coil end was screwed into the box and try fresh batteries. If this doesn't work I guess she will have to send it back to Fisher. Disappointing. I really hope Fisher can fix it. It's got me worried. I will still take any advice and Thanks in advance.

well the next time you hunt that area with the f-5 look on your F E O meter and watch your constant read outs and that will give you some idea on whats going on but i have heard the of 1 case there was a brand new 1270 purchased and had to ship back because of a faulty conection inside but they shipped it back runnig like a new one should plus have your friend check all the connections and wrap the coil wire snuggly around post, a loose wire can cause alot of falsing try different things to pinpoint the problem of the static

Yo Jav, Long time no see, where you been?

Lizz its a great, been using it for a couple of year before I got the F75 LTD, It will go real deep, unbelivable depth with the 10.5 coil even down to the 5" coil. Ok if she hunting relic, or foundations, ALL/METALS you need a good G.B. after that set the SEN up to about or till you get back round noise, This is important till her not to be afraid to lower the SEN to stabilize the machine, the 1270 still goes real deep with very low SEN setting, I've dropped it 3 or 4 and still got fantastic depth ,then set the iron to 9 or 10 and check your A/M target VIA toggle switch(push forward).

If your coinshooting make sure the GB is off, turn it on now you can go: DISC as first search and Iron as your swap, I use number 5 on DISC or ADJ it with a nickel loss the nickel then bring it back in, remember that setting for the future "NO NICKELS NO GOLD" set the iron up there again and check your DISC hits on the iron DISC, no sound you know it was small iron, won't get large out. Or you can swap the other way around Seach Iron first and check with DISC, I find this way better because thats where the SEE THRU IRON TRASH works Good sound in Iron and good sound in DISC real good chance its a winner, increased my silver and old coins findings a hell of a lot. Remember Unstable lower the SEN, don't be afraid to lower it.

Also if you cant make it run stable and the noise is eractic in the air , everywhere no matter what you try call Felix at Fisher sent mine back twice for that, once it was a Gound Bal Pot was bad, and the other was the coil, you might want to try a nother coil if that happens again cause my 8
' went bad put on the 5" and worked great.

Thank you Shooter! I will pass this info along. It is much appreciated. I have always heard that the 1270 is an excellent machine. I love Fisher detectors. I have had so much fun with the F5. One day I hope to upgrade to an F75! Thanks again!

well shooter i've been in and out and i've finally decided that the 1270 is for me straight and simple after 20 some odd machines i've tried in 5 years roughly this is the one!

I'm going out tomorrow and check this out myself. It is possible that there is something wrong. If I think so I'm telling her to send it back. I love Fisher but sometimes I'm sure like with any company a lemon slips through. I hope not. I am not "cutting down" the 1270 by no means but for 600 bucks it should be working proper. I'll let you know tomorrow what I think. I have been detecting a long time and have owned 7 different detectors over the years myself. Fisher is my personal favorite. I have just never used a 1270 before thats why I'm seeking advice.

I also greatly appreicate the advice I've been given. I'm printing it out and we are going to try all of it. If that doesn't work, it's got to be the machine. I was there the first time she had to send it back. It just stopped working all together. I mean I tried fresh batteries reconnecting the coil and nothing, it was dead. The man at Fisher did find a problem with it. He was going to include a sheet in the box to tell her what the problem was but forgot to do so. She's calling him this week too. I think once the machine is straight it's gonna be great. I just hate to see her getting discouraged and ready to junk the thing but I can't say I blame her after everything she's been through with it. But, I haven't given up hope on it yet. :)

You won't be sorry and awesome detecter, got mine down pat.

Ok Lizz 1 word on pin pointing, the 1270 could have had a better pin point not that it bad but on close targets its real loud and wide but you can get around it by lifting the or place the coil on the next to where the target is and tune with the pin point toggle position then move over the target it will cut it down deep target you will have no problem, and believe me it will go deep. I don't use the pin point option much, I use the IRON button as a pin pointer, its faster and easier, and if you search in DISC make sure ground bal is off and IRON toggle is off, the iron toggle only has to be on when its your primary mode. anymore help just ask.

Thank you Shooter!! I'm going over there tomorrow and we are gonna test out everything. I'll post tomorrow!!

LOL!! Tomorrow is going to be an interesting day. We going to be hunting a promising spot and I hope to post something good! ;)

Yo Lizz how'd you make out.

Hey Shooter, I didnt get a chance to check it out. They have a haunted trail going and they have been busy this week. I promise though you will get an update next week! I did get in a little relic hunting in yesterday. All I found was a #2 lead sinker in the middle of the woods lol. No ponds or rivers around. Go figure lol.

The 1270 is fixed!!! Me and my friend Allison want to thank all you guys for your help. We finally got out today and did some hunting. We took your advice and the 1270 is working like a charm. Between us we found a few Civil War Bullets, some clad, a silver charm, and old buckle and some other stuff. Today was a good day. Thank you again!!! :bouncy:
