Need a little info on repair

Today while water hunting the ol Excal started breaking up then quit altogether. I traced the problem to the battery wire..I believe there's a break close to the plug. First I'm going to check the continuity through the plug.If that checks out OK then I thought I'd cut the wire just behind the plug and then check the continuity to the inside of the control where the wire is soldered. I've never had the main unit apart. Can someone give me a little instruction on taking the end cap off so I don't screw something up..I imagine the O rings aren't going to release and slide out easily.

If your going to take the end cap off that has the coil and battery cable attached to it you have to first remove the end cap that has the headphones attached to it. Remove the headphone end cap then unplug the connector going to the board, turn ALL controls fully counter clockwise before trying to remove the circuit board. Looking down the tube from the headphone end rotate the board and ease it out slowly making sure all of the control shafts clear the components on the circuit board. When your done reverse the procedure. Good luck!
P.S. Keep the "O" rings clean.

One of the wires had broken about 1/2 inch behind the connector. I didn't have to open the main unit, just cut the break out and re soldered. Its runnin again..
