Hello all I just received permission to hunt a homestead that was built in 1749 . I only get to hunt this place for one day and I want to hit the hot spots first. Like chicken coops around the house and cloths lines can you think of any other places I should look at first .

I would look in the yard on the east side of the house as people used to sit outside on summer evenings and that would have been the shaded side of the house.

just to let everyone know . I found nothing around this old house or in the yard .can you beleave that just a few pull tabs the old ones and some copper pipe. I used my ace 250 and my fisher 1265-x . I think someone beat me to it even though the owners say I was the first to detect on it .Oh well thats how it goes.I do have another house on the same farm maybe things will be diffrent.

Been there, done that, especially on old farm houses. Rural people didn't have much money and didn't carry it around everyday like people in the city did. The only time they carried money was when they were going to town to buy supplies and such and
I'm guessing since they didn't have much, if they lost a nickle or dime, they hunted for it until they found it. But you never know, there could be the find of a lifetime there, too, so keep pounding those old places and you could make a great find!! Good luck and happy hunting!!

Like BigCatDaddy said there wasn't much money to lose. But I have found old flat buttons and a few IH's where the men worked in the garden.
