Need a coil cover for about a buck?

Hi guys check this out I saw a guy's post about how he fixed his detector coil with a bucket cover glued onto it cause he had used it soooooo much that the wires were exposed! So, I took tried to make some for my own to use on my 505 and delta and presto! New coil covers for about a buck in cost, and about five minutes to make, more or less. What you think?

Mike

That is the standard coil for the BH505, and if you look at the Lowe's tag it's the one that fits a 5 qt bucket at 68 cents each.

Now that's cool, does it change the depth of ur finds or does everything work like normal ??

I would think the bucket lid would be a little thicker than a coventional coil cover also.

looks pretty cool, but is there a real need to even cut out the spaces in the coil. Seems you may get a little more protection not cutting out the open spaces.
I really like the idea. We have a ton of those where I work for free. I may have to grab a couple and try it out.

Great ingenuity

Well, mitto and others, I found that when I used the cover without the holes it did protect it better, but it also collected loose material from the ground when I scuffed the area, in mulch or leafy areas some debris would collect in the area between the coil and cover where if cut out would just fall back on the ground. I am thinking of making a template using mdf board of each of my coils and then I could use either a router or rotozip or other rotary tool with a template follower bit, even a veneer trimmer bit would do, to make the cutouts quickly and accurately so that I could make as many as needed for a season of hunting, which for me here in southern Georgia is year round.
Some guys at work suggested that i patent the plans and templates and sell them on E-bay, but we will see if there is a big enough demand to go to all that trouble. Besides I am sure I might be infringing on someones design or idea. Right now I am happy to save a bundle on covers and replacement covers.

Mike - i read about someone else doing this at another website, dont think anyone has pattend it , cause the lids should already have a patent on them and i think there would be an infringement of patents somewhere along the line. not sure would have to get a liar , i mean a lawyer involed.

anyways would it be ok with u if i copied this and posted it in my yahoo group with all respects and naming to you.

Thanks
Karl

Sure Karl, I don't mind, just thought it was a good idea and hopefully will help someone else.

Mike

Thanks Mike Much appreciated.
