Reference:American Military Button Makers and Dealers; Their Backmarks & Dates by William F McGuinn & Bruce S Bazelon.
The buttons were made in England where Lewis was a merchant.. Lewis & Tomes were mechants & importers of jewelry & buttons in NYC. <STRONG>The New York firm dated 1819-1826 as Lewis & Tomes.</STRONG>

Do any of you NC folks ever get together for club hunts? I'm learning to relic hunt and would love the opportunity to learn more about it. Especially with the purchase of the explorer II.

Not that I'm aware of here in Martin County. Don't even know of a relic hunt club. Most people I know are loners or occasionally hunt with a friend. You've got the right equipment... <IMG SRC="/metal/html/ml.gif" BORDER=0 width=30 height=15 ALT="m~"> ... took me over a year to convince BA, but now he's sold on them. I prefer beach hunting, but enjoy an occasional relic hunt with BA.
