I really like those bottles you guys post here on the forum. Can you give me some information on how and where you find them? Outhouses? Is that safe? How do you find where they were? Same with a bottle dump. I live in Nebraska and can't say that I have ever heard of one.
Here is a bad picture of a bottle I found while metal detecting. It says F-A HYC Co and Chicago below it. Still has the cork and screw on cap with a star on the top. The bottle is about 4" tall, 2" wide and 1" thick. Keep on diggin!

Thanks

Kurt

Google the words Privy digging or how to dig a privy. You should stumble on to some sites that show you finds and pictures of how it's done. Good luck, and it's as safe as you make it to dig a privy!

You could start here, for free. http://relic-hunter.50megs.com/custom4.html

I am also going to start looking for bottles along with detecting. Both hobbies are new to me, but since I live on an old (1807) farmland, I think I may have a good time looking (and finding, I hope) I have found some VERY thick broken glass, perhaps from milk bottles. We'll see

Good luck to you, good luck to me
