Well I finally got settled in here in Nebraska, from Georgia, and man is it cold. I haven't been on line much so I probably missed all kinds of stuff. couldn't make it to the get together in Missouri, man that I wish I could have went, it must have been a blast. Well managed to get out and do some detecting here, most of the items were from the old fort crook part of the base, the quarter is a 1948D, a war nickel, merc, and rosey. the oldest wheat is 1910. both of the crosses are siver. The U.S. insignia not to sure about dont know if its a type of belt plate or what. all in all finds have been ok, but am having a blast.
take care and HH

When you get time try your local library and check out a copy of "Perkey's Nebraska Place Names by Elton Perkey. I used to travel down that way in the middle to late 80's to the Treasure Expo's Paul Taintor held at Fremont Nb. The Detector manufacturers would be introducing new units and a lot of Treasure personalities would show up and some would be guest speakers. A good time was had and I got to do a lot of hunting with some of the Detector Reps, still have some friends I haven't seen for a long time. Lots of old silver then and I imagine some still left. Any community along the river is very old. When you get time go up to Blair and check out the Riverboat Treasure at the State Park it is amazing, it was found by a couple of treasure hunters in the 60.s. I have a friend that used to live in Plattsmouth and he works at the Airbase, he is a computer Guru in the finance dept. I used to have a lot of plat maps I got at the local courthouses in the small communities and there was so much info on them it was staggering, most of them cost very little and some were given to me. The Place name book will tell you about small farming communities that no longer exist, most are now cornfields but got to hunt some and I can still see the purpled glass and homemade bricks in some of the fields we hunted...Good Luck in your new area but it sounds like winter is pretty close...HH...Geo

Usually Records, but all you have to do is ask, they are very helpfula as a rule...Might too check if you can find Mike Slater on the base he used to be an avid detectorist and he has friends in the farming community which would get you onto some of those fields... If you have access to the Autovon network this is an easy task, I used to call from the darkest part of AK and chat with him. One other tip you can consider this winter, the county surveyer can be your friend, remember these guys have walked a lot of the county and have seen some pretty interesting things, find one you can talk to and make the best of it.. Good Luck...Geo
