Got out hunting w/ the MXT yesterday afternoon @ a local beach/campground. Wasn't doing that great ( about $ 2.50 in clad ) but since I hadn't been out for a couple days I was up for extending the hunt a little longer. I had already decided to dig one last signal but my batteries were getting low, the area was moderately trashy, and the VDI was giving some confusing info. I had almost given up but was able to isolate the target and out popped.... my first gold ring, and it had a huge stone in it ! BUT... when I got home I found that it's probably gold plated. Inside the band reads 14 KT G.E. ESPO. I assume the G.E. stands for gold electroplate which would likely make the stone a large Q Z. Even if it isn't that valuable it was still a great find in my (short) book. It also lets me know that me and my new "partner" are on the right track. I'll try to post a pic if I can figure out my computer ( now there's a machine I need help with ! ) Any insight or opinions on my find ? Thanks Dig On !

Sounds like it's plated but still a nice find. I dig alot of different signal's in search of the gold and the plated one's keep me happy and digging. Post a pic .

Sounds great srf2112! My guess the G.E. stands for gold electroplate. Never the less, you were able to go hunt and get in some practice. Good going and hope you can get some pictures posted. HH and thanks for sharing! Nancy

Quite often the VDI will give confusing info on targets that turn out to be jewelry or other worthwhile (non coin) targets.

I'll try my best to post a pic. BTW-I'm pretty sure that this particular area at this spot has never been hunted. I only hunted it for the last 10-15 min. of my 2-1/2 hr hunt and picked up $ 1.75 of my $2.50 in clad and the ring. One signal yielded 3 quarters in one scoop. A first for me. Needless to say I will be going back there as soon as possible. Hopefully I'll have some even better finds to post some pics of. Now if my computer only had some VDI #'s ......?

You picked a great

I'd take it in to a jewelery store and see what they have to say.
It could be worth more than you think. Couldn't hurt.

Here's a couple pics of my ring find from Friday eve. I apologize for the bad quality. Again, inside the band is inscribed 14 K.T. G.E. ESPO. All periods and capital letters are as they appear inside the ring. I have no idea how to judge the authenticity of the stone other than I doubt they would put a real diamond on a plated ring but then again people sometimes do strange things. What I DO know from looking at it with a magnifying glass is that it's not chipped or scratched and it's huge ! Any input is appreciated. Thanks. HH

A CZ, cubic Zirconium, will often look better than a real diamond. A diamond will also be mounted in a quality finding, (ring) and head, (prongs).

Still a pretty neat find! Hey, will it cut glass? Please don't apologize about the photos. They're great and it's so breathtaking to see you posting and really enjoying metal detecting. I can't wait to be able to get out and give it a try. HH, Nancy

Very nice finds and the ring is great . As they say a ring is ring no matter what its made of . Good Job
