NC/Outer Banks

Going on a family vacation to the outer banks in Aug. We rented a house that i guess has access to a private beach. I was wondering if anyone new of any detecting laws in NC and more specific the outer banks region.

we went there in aug of last year and i looked it up and you were allowed.

uummm - if I am not to late with this reply - much of the Outer Banks is NATIONAL SEASHORE - hunting on the parts that are controlled by the FEDS is a NO-NO!!

I have spent a lot of time on the Outer Banks. It is my fishing paradise. There are some stretches of beach (like behind the motels) where you might be able to hunt. There is a lot of environmental protection (animals, birds, habitat) that goes on there. If you are digging on protected shores and a Ranger comes along you will get a ticket.....or worse! The further south you go on the Outer Banks the more protected the shores. If you haven;t booked a room yet you should consider the "Outer Banks Motel" on Hatteras. There is a long stretch of beach there where you should be ok.... but ask first to be sure. Happy Hunting

Rules are simple. South of NagsHead is a no no.NagsHead and any place north of NagsHead all the way to the Va line is a go. I hunt there alot. Also you can only take the 4wheel drives on the beach once you go past the horse fence.Everywhere else is off limits til oct 1.

You are correct with the rules but you will need to get a permit ($50.00) to drive on any of the beaches in OBX. This is the first year for this law.
