National Forest guidlines

I included this link since i read on this site in a couple different forums national forest were not open to use of metal detectors.
 
Yeah,

I called the federal park rangers and asked them about a permit to hunt an area around here, but was told they could issue a permit for anything but wouldn't do that. They said the federal goverment pretty much considers anything in the ground belonging to them. I then told him that weren't we the goverment... lol that didn't make him happy. Would be nice if we could hunt areas like that.
