Nasa Tom's new DVD

I was not that impressed with the DVD for one thing he did not show how a small coil would make a difference and he didn't talk about sensitivity. Not everyone hunts with tones and his soil is very neutral. Coins sound different in my ground not every coin has a crisp sound and I dig them and they are coins. He didn't use a pin pointer and that would give him more time to find his targets and he uses a shovel to dig his holes I would get kicked out of every park if I did the same. He also uses his coil in the hole to find the target, (if he finds multy targets). I wish I could dig my holes that big.

He does have some useful info so I am not saying that I didn't get something out of it but it didn't teach me anything new...no new tricks, so I give it a thumbs down SORRY!

I have his Email address and I am not asking for a refund just stating my views.

I agree with you on all the points you made but I still liked the video. It stands head and shoulders above any of the other videos I have seen. I didn't know anyone used a shovel to hunt coins but the ground seemed sandy and maybe it was necessary. The small plugs I make would have probably filled up with sand if I was hunting there. I would also like to have seen him use a different band detector as well. We did not get to see any ID numbers either.

I watched it a few more times and he has a lot to say it seems he looks for more high tones and he doesn't talk about notching or the freq of different machines and how they can help you. or any info on multy freq ect.

With high mineral ground I think it would be harder to hunt then it is where he lives...maybe if he makes some money he can make a new video and go into some more depth about some of the things we are interested in...

& thanks for your review of it. But, it sounds like it could be worth a look if only to check out his approach. I believe we have to keep in mind that everyone has a different "style" in how they do things. I don't think I do everything "by the book" myself. I have learned different things over the years, first from grandpa, then treasure magazines, watching Civil War relic hunters, etc. I scrub the ground with the coil, & watch other folks with theirs an inch off the ground or with a pendelum swing. I guess the bottom line is go with whatever works for you, but if you can pick up even more tips along the way that can only be a good thing...

It is a good video after watching it a few times but he could have added more info I think you will find something that will help you as it did me...I was just hoping for more.

Lawrenzo is trolling once again, like usual.

A. If I am as unhappy about a product as he portrays in his post, then the first thing I am going to do is contact the manufacturer/author and let them know what I think. If I am not satisfied with the response, then, and only then, I might bring it up on a public forum. His post strikes me as Tom D bashing, and I don't think Tom D deserves that, as I believe he has contributed just a wee bit more to the betterment of the hobby than Lawrenzo.

B. The cover photo of Tom D's DVD has him holding a Teknetics T2, yet Lawrenzo posted this on the three Fisher forums in typical troll fashion, and NOT on the T2 forum where they happen to speak highly of the DVD. So this just appears to be a post to incite Fisher fans, and in particular as an in your face to BFL. Yet BFL didn't bite, to his credit.

And in case you're wondering, I don't know Tom D, never met him, never bought anything from him, have only read some of his well thought out articles.

And lastly I figure that this is a good day for Lawrenzo, because I don't have admin privileges on this site.

I liked the video for what it is. Yo watch someone in the field hunting. Been metal detecting for 28 years so no he did not really show me anything new. I just wish he had not been in a virgin site but in the real world most of us hunt in pull tabs and all. We all could probably do well in a virgin site such as he was hunting. I think he really knows his stuff. Nothing about sensitivity settings as there seems to be some controversity about the way he recommends setting the CZ.

and thought it was pretty good. I would like to have seen how he would handle layers of tabs and rusty bottlecaps like we encounter in some of these parks in north texas. He hunts the way I do, listens to everthing, but most of the places we hunt, if we had a shovel, we better have some rosebushes to plant in case we were caught digging holes like that.----Wade:fisher:

Seems like we don't live in America and we can't say what is on our minds. T2 not in the video you should check out your facts before you balme me on something I have checked out. Nasa Tom does read the fourms and if you read the second review I gave you would see that he does have a lot of info I was not knocking him but wondering why he didn't go into more depth on coils and sens and notching and different ground to detect in...All I can say is you have the right to review me as I do you. I have a few people that agree with me and they did't seem to think I was too hard on Tom. I would not return his DVD I hope the money he makes can help him make a new DVD and cover new info...In fact I have two fisher's and they were both designed by Nasa Tom you must be a dealer but not sell Fisher Detectors

I just now got it and finished watching it. I thought it had good information. Not often you get to hear and watch someone dig stuff that wasn't planted (like a certain Whites instructional video I shall not name).

It was also fun to watch his excitement when he dug a really good target. I thought he was going to break out into happy dance over that ring, then later on the Barber quarter, but he just barely managed to keep it under control...a little  I was right there with him

Even his test garden setup was informative. Most of us are trial and error guys and its nice to see how sucessful detectorists use such things.

From what I understand, he purposefully seeks out these virgin spots for old coins. Maybe he'll slum alittle and hit an alum park for us on another video at a future date. We could always ask

Looked like he was using a CZ5 but had 4 tones, so I'm guessing a CZ3D without the logo stickers. Nothing to set up in that ground. No mineralization to squeeze the detection field and warp the response so I doubt he will be going into sens settings. Thats too machine/ground dependant anyway. And if you don't know what your machine's inground detecting field shape looks like at various sens settings...well...thats your own business.

I give the video a thumb up

Thom did a very good job covering the material that he covered. So good in fact I wanted to see much more. I have watched other detector videos and after about 20 minutes I had seen enough to know I wasn't going to learn a thing. I hope he produces others. By the way I had never heard of Thom before this video. I own 5 detectors and only one is a Fisher. I can apply info from his video to hunting with any of my detectors. John R

At least that is what the letter that came in the DVD I bought from him stated. It was nice to see a detecting video that wasn't filmed in a "planted site" like many of them are. There were a couple things that have me scratching my head. I thought he passed up a lot of high tones that I would have spent more time going over. But, then again, he does know much more about the sounds of the CZ than I do. The other thing was when he said that the 1910 Barber quarter he dug up must have been lost in the early months of 1912, (based on the amount of wear on the letters E and R in LIBERTY). I have a hard time with that one. All in all, a good video for newbies and us old timers as well. HH Randy
