Narrowed down to MXT or Minelab X705

Well I have narrowed it down on my next detector purchase. It is between the X 705 and the MXT. I live in the nw corner of Ohio where for the most part the ground is mostly mild. I do have a Whites dealer within 30 minute drive which would be a plus. Do we have anyone who has had both and can give me an unbiased pros and cons to each. I do mostly coin and jewelry hunting along with some relic hunting at old farm sites. Once a year I do make it to S Carolina or Florida w/ the family and get to do a little beach hunting but not basing purchase on salt beaches. I do some fresh water beach hunting also. Any honest input would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

ive owned both its mxt for me :super: whites service is # 1
the mxt is a faster responce than the xterra but a bit noisier
the xterra is a bit lighter
more coil choices with the mxt
but different coils on the xterra change the frequency of the unit
eather unit would serve you well
read the fourms see what others think then make your choice
on this fourm im sure you will hear praises on the mxt
the xterra fourm will have the same
there both great machines
good hunting

Have MXT and Minelab 505,like the MXT better-easier to use for me. Plus if you dont like Mxt they hold much better resale value than the xteras,Take a look on forums and paybay. That said you can pick up a used 705 cheaper than mxt and have a good detector also..Tough call..Hey having that Whites dealer nearby would make me think!! Good luck and we all go through the same thing. BigSteve

The MXT is a fun machine, and best of all the White's sevice is top shelf, and it is made in America.

Found myself asking the same question, and for me it was coil choice. Go Whites!

I've never owned the X70 but I have had great luck with the MXT.
I don't know how customer service stands with MineLab, But Whites has been
really wonderful and they are right here in the USA. I don't know about MineLab

When they sent out their V3 package, they had cupons for money off the V3 or
any of the coils. I didn't catch the fact that the coils at a reduced rate werre for
V3 owners only but I talked to a customer service rep there at Sweet Home, and they let be have the
12 inch coil for my mxt anyway. It didn't matter that I had bought my MXT used.

I think you will find the MXT a great machine and like has already been said, if you
don't like it, the machine has a very high resale value. Its really very easy to use; its almost a
turn on and go machine.

Minelab is an Australian company, Woo Hoo go Australia. I have only used the x70 one time and found it to be a bit involved re setting options. They still find sub grammer gold with it but so do us MXT users. The mxt is a turn it on and go machine and very easy to use. I preferr my MXT. Performance wise the difference is not enough to worry about. I still think performance has a lot to do with how well the user knows his machine. The MXT is much easier so I would go with one of those given what you want to use it for.

My brother and I both bought our newest land machines about the same time, he chose the Minelab SE and I bought the MXT. We've both have made fantastic finds with them. Both detectors have never had any problems and they both get used a lot. I've always owned Whites products because they are made in U.S.A. and they're good durable detector's and have always done a fantastic job in the field. I've been using them since 89 and have only had to fix very minor things from being used so much. I had a couple green machines just to try them but never had much luck with them. Whites service is second to none in my opinion. My brother still always has me check his targets to see if I'd dig them.

I traded my MXT to buy an X-70 and have never looked back. Was the MXT a good machine...yes. But, the X-70 has the things I like.
1. Tones
2. Adjustable GB-Adjustable volume.
3. BIG display numbers.
4. The navigation through the menu is so very simple.
5. Different discrimination patterns at the touch of a button.
6. Quite a bit lighter than an MXT.
7. Uses 4 AA batteries that easily last a good 30 hours.
8. Several different coils for different ground conditions. Once you set it up to your liking all you have to do is GB every time you start it up and go.

The only thing I didn't like about the X-70 was the crummy, small detector stand. But I fixed that I replaced the stand with a stand of an XLT.

Either way, I think you will be happy if you take the time to learn what the machine is telling you.
