Narrowed Choices To Silver U-max or Cibola (Need Your Input)

I have narrowed my choices to the Silver U-max and the Cibola. I appreciate all the feedback I have received from you guys and or gals. I am trying to stay on a budget with this purchase so I can afford a 5.75 coil and a good set of headphones. As I mentioned in another post I plan on using this unit for old home sites for coins and jewerly at freshwater beaches. I may also do a little relic hunting, but not so much. I have read a lot of post from other users and have heard no complaints about either model. Some have said that the Silver u-max is about as deep as the Cibola but doesn't have the pinpoint. The Silver does offer all-metal hunting which I like and the Cibola doesn't if I understand right. Can users of both compare these two units as to depth in moderate ground conditions using both stock coils and the 5.75 if you have used both? I am leaning to the Silver, but don't want to give up a lot of depth. Most posters seem to think they are similar as to depth. I had one dealer who told me there was a lot of difference in depth. I once owned an old Silver Sabre (Not the Silver Sabre U-max) and it did not have much depth. Are these smaller u-max units a lot deeper than the old large box Sabres? Any information would be appreciated.

Hay Prospector,

I have owned a Cobola and I have a Silver Sabre uMax which has a threshold based all metal pin point with button access like a Cibola. The Silver uMax has an all metal mode but it is not threshold based like the Silver Sabre. The all metal of the Silver uMax is the same as a motion based discriminate mode with the discrimination turned all the way down. So there is no threshold based all metal mode on the Silver uMax.

I don't know about the Silver uMax but the Silver Sabre uMax gets good depth, especially on nickels. The Cibola gets better depth that the Silver Sabre.

If you shop on the Internet you can find a Tesoro with a manual ground balance for about the same price as a new Silver.

The Cibola has a wider range of acceptance of conductive materials on the iron side of the scale. It can pick up more iron like materials which can help some when relic hunting and can deal with masking a little better.

The Silver tends to reject iron naturally and is a great coin and jewelry hunter. Doesn't clean a place out but hunts well.

Don't know about the older box type Silvers.
