MYSTERY SPANISH COIN

A number of years, ago, a friend from Melbourne, FL gave me this coin and he said that the person that he bought it from said that is was from Spanish treasure. Can anyone help me identify what it is or authenticate it for me? It weighs 18.5 grams and measures approx. 1 1/2 by 1 1/2"

The size is of an 8 reale, 38mm, but the weight is a little low. 26.8 Grams is normal, weight loss could be from wear or clipping. I would say you have a piece of 8, 8 reale.

I don't no the exact English name. It is a crud Spanish coin from the Spanish colonies in South America's. Actually it is a lump of silver that was minted in South America before being shipped to the motherland Spain Europe. In Europe these were further processed into reales, patagons and shillings. You can find loads on the internet by googling "spaanse mat". In the 17th century Dutch seafarer Piet Hein captured a Spanish armada with tons of silver consisting of bars and these coins. This boosted the Dutch economy still at war with Spain. These coins are frequently found in the Netherlands but don't understand me wrong it is a favoured treasure. I bet the coin was originally found in the Caribbean or in northwestern Europe.
