Mystery Button

New member
Was out hunting yesterday with my brother at a mid-1800's house and found this button in a heavily iron infested area - only about 3" deep but difficult to detect (used combined mode on CTX). It's pretty beat up, missing the back but unusually heavy. It looks like an older (pre civil war?) eagle style with the letters "B" and "G" on the front. Any ideas? Have never seen one like it before.

Thx!

Doug I located your button in my book just now. This is what I can tell you about it but needs more research. The book is Record of American uniform and Historical Buttons bicentennial edition. Page453 uu9. BD Eagle made by Wadhams Webster & Co. UU stands forunclassified and unidentified. The manufacturer is not listed in the book so I would try the internet. If I find any thing else out I will post. Great find! and good luck. Metalmiester.

Thanks Metal - I'll keep digging based upon this information as well - HH
