My XT 70 is faulty !!

Hi guys this is my first post so bare with me. My XT 70 has developed a weird fault. Basically it has lost all sound output from the speaker. For a while, taking the batteries out and replacing them worked but finally it stayed silent.

Now the good bit. A call to Minelab was very productive. Although I recently bought the machine 2nd hand it was only sold new in February and Minelab said they stand by their product and said they would consider repair or replacement as long as it has not been abused which it has not - its had so little use its almost new but I would have to pay any carriage.
So the control unit was sent off and I will keep you all posted of events.

Ask Barnacle Bill or Digger as they may tell you about a battery connection problem that might causing this problem? And maybe a solution to remedy the problem.

It's a push on speaker wire connector working loose from the circuit board. At least it was on the one I had. Easy Fix Can't believe it's still happening dang .2 cent part!!!

There's that "dang" word again ..."darn" it !!

If the headphones work and the internal speaker doesn't, it is probably the speaker connection (as Tom mentioned) If neither work, it is probably a software glitch or damaged component. Call Minelab and see what the techs have to say. Maybe they can "walk you through it". Or they may want you to send it in. I've had mine open a couple times. But wouldn't encourage others to do the same. JMHO HH Randy

I'm curious.....were the detectors run without headphones much?

only time I don't use them is when I'm testing the machine at home. Mine worked fine with the phones on, speakers had broken wire, Minelab replaced speaker, said it was new and improved. This happened about 2 years ago. HH John

fix for this problem (anything is possible) I'd be willing to bet that in most cases it is the connector that is at fault. The connector is a simple push on, non-click locking part with insufficient friction to keep it from working loose as the detector is used. I don't know if ML puts the speaker assemblies together themselves or jobs it out but, it needs to be fixed. .05 cents cost savings on a part vs. the expense of the customer having to sending it to Vegas for repair just doesn't make sense to me.
