My worst hunt ever, but:clapping:

it wasn't a total loss. Had our club hunt Sat and about ten people showed up. It rained a little bit just as we got started and then it let up. It was really slow going and I'm thinking man I'm going to get skunked on the silver and sure enough I did.:veryangry: I got a little bit of clad and only four wheaties that are in pretty rough shape. The dates were 2-46's, a 52 and a no date. Got a cheap ring and my first $2 Canadian coin or as some of us call them here in the US a toonie.:) My best find for the day was a cool 5 cent trade token.:clapping: On the back it says The Pike Recreation with the address 1429 4th Ave. It's from the Seattle area and I'm guessing it's from the early 1900's, but without a Wa token book I don't know for sure. I heard that only one silver rosie was found when we took our lunch break and out of ten people that's not good at all. Some more good news is that my buddy Lee's XS got back from repairs just in time for the hunt and it was working just fine, but he might as well been using his White's as all the Minelabs just weren't clicking Sat. Now for the bad news.:ranting: We left kind of early as the rain really started coming down and just decided to head for home. About ten minutes into our drive home I noticed that my windshield wipers were running real slow even on the fast mode. Then I looked at my gauges and they weren't working and my speedometer seemed to be stuck at 95 MPH and I knew we are only going 55. The further we got down the freeway I finally figured that my alternator went out and we were just running off the battery. The rain was really coming down hard now and with the battery getting low I was using my wipers as little as possible which mad it even harder to see. About fifty miles from home Lee says. I sure hope we make it home. We are both keeping our fingers crossed and then it happened.:rage: Eight miles from home my battery got so low that my old 91 Chevy S-10 finally crapped out and Lee and I looked at each other and I'm sure we had the same look on our faces.:help: Luckily I had my cell phone with me and called a towing company. Only had to wait about 15 minutes which shocked the heck out of me and I guess the good news from all of this is that the bill was only $112. The hook up fee was $70 and then it's $4.25 per mile. Thank God it didn't happen when we were 60 miles from home.:clapping: Wish I had a better detecting story to tell you fellows and pictures of some better finds, but that's what happens sometimes. Thanks for looking, HH and does anyone know where I can get a cheap alternator?

Nothing wrong with a few wheaties and a ring Eddie,

That's a nice hunt and I'm happy with just one wheatie from a few of the sites I hunt.

Good post...and I'm glad you made it home safe.

Glad you made it home safely. Hope you can find an alternator - you can probably get a rebuilt fairly cheaply. Neat finds though - I like the toonie. I don't think anyone in our club here in NE Ohio has found one, despite our proximity to Canada and the fact we find Canadian coins from time to time. The Pike Recreation token is listed in the Washington book as being from Seattle but they don't give the era. I would guess 1910-1930 but I may be way off. They also don't give the rarity of any Seattle tokens since"There are about 3,500 different Seattle tokens, mostly selling in the $2-$4 range." The book does say there are some desirable Seattle tokens though but it is hard to assign rarities with so many tokens from this city. It's still a neat find and packed with history. Happy hunting and good luck with the car.

Would the adress place in Pike Place Market? Neat token, I kinda like diggen em. I got a neat one from south of Yakima (dug it in Spokane ). I hope one day that I dig an Exploder token. I hunt up in Pend 'Orielle Co sometimes, losts of mines up there and the Silvre Valley to the east... Must be a few around here.

Jeff

I always give a thumbs up for the day when i find a trade token of some sort. I do hate it when a hunt gets called short for rain/snow/dark/etc.

Good luck with the alternator.

Rich (Utah)

Thanks Rich. It wasn't my best hunt, but getting out is what it's all about.:clapping: That's only my third trade token and they are kind of cool to find. The new alternator is about $90 and I'm doing it myself to save some money.:crylol: GL & HH.

Eddie

Thanks Jeff. Trade tokens are kind of neat to find. That token is from a place that was on Pike street and 4th Ave and not too far from the Pike's street market. I got to find somebody who might have a Washington state token book and see if that token might be in there. Goos luck on youe search for that Exploder token.:clapping: GL & HH.

Eddie

Yep, it was a costly trip, but we made it home safe and souind. Thanks for the info on the trade token. I have to find someone with a Washington state token book and maybe it might be listed in there. I also found a token from a place called Moscow that changed it's name to Bluestem and from what I hear it's really rare. I was offered $125 from two different people sight unseen and figured it's worth more then that. Thanks again and GL & HH to you.

Eddie

Thanks buddy. It wasn't a complete skunked hunt and I'll take a trade token any day. Got home safe and one expensive trade token for sure.:ranting: The new alternator is about $90 and I'm going to fix it myself. It's not that big of a deal and figured I could save me some money by doing it myself HH to you and hope you and your dad get out again soon.

Eddie

Some good finds Eddie. I would be thrilled with those digs. Did you get your alternater fixed okay?

Thanks Dave. Haven't got my new alternator yet, but did get a price on one. When I get my reimbursement check back from my insurance company I'll go down and get one. It shouldn't be too hard of a job even for an old fart like me. HH.
