Yep, last Saturday we were out Detecting at one of the oldest parks in Detroit, I had found an Indian head and just found a 1899 barber dime, so i thought i was doing pretty good.
Then my wife who is about 15 yards from me says i found a gold coin, i said what ! you found a gold coin ? So i start to walk over to see what the heck she is talking about { thinking its a token or something along those lines } so as I'm getting closer she gets down beside the plug reaches in the hole and pulls out not this little token or 5 dollar piece but the grand daddy of them all a 20 dollar gold piece i almost died on the spot ! i just kept saying OH MY GOD ! OH MY GOD !!!!! OH MY GOD !!!!!!!! She was as calm as can be and I'm about to go crazy. then for just a second i realize we are in the worst neighborhood in Detroit and start to think just a little more clearly { that's it we are leaving now !!!! } so she checks the hole and the plug and the surrounding area and we leave.
I'll tell ya i don't remember walking to the van or putting my detector in the van or even most of the drive home in fact i had to keep checking to make sure i didn't leave something at the park, all the way home i just kept saying OH MY GOD
OK as for the coin it is a 1928 Saint-Gaudens 20 dollar gold piece in Au or better condition.
At our Michigan treasure hunters meeting on Tuesday it easily won find of the month and was certainly the hit of the meeting. Also it was our annual open house and we had a whole bunch of guests that must have been inspired by the over all excitement of the meeting.
My wife Sharon Detects with a CZ-7 a Pro, the coin in my rough estimation was about 9 inches deep and gave her a high coin signal. Now in retrospect I'm not nearly as surprised Sharon is certainly one of the best treasure hunters i know and she has found just a bunch of awesome finds over the years but this certainly tops them all. I'll post pics as soon as i can, my camera just doesn't do it Justis. HH. Tim
