My wife had enough of me this weekend and said "This might be a good weekend to head to CT.....

and metal detect." (She left out metal detecting,) but that was the first thing on my mind. I figured the timing was right for perfect detecting conditions since CT still had about 6-8" of wet snow with more scheduled for the weekend.
I called up my buddy Donnie and he said he didn't have his fishing license so we might better go detecting. We planned to go Sunday morning after I checked out what was making a screeching noise under the hood of my car. It turned out the idler tension wheel had seized up and the bearing fell out of the wheel, the friction caused enough heat to melt my timing belt cover. The part would be there on Monday so I had the rest of the day to detect.;)
Donnie and I decided to hit an old road in an area close to where we have been hitting some goodies. We crossed a beaver dam and ended up on a nice clear trail, the only problem was the snow stuck to your detector coil like your shorts after hockey practice. We had to stop and brush it off every 5 mins or so. We still had smiles on our faces because we were detecting. I found an old knife just as Donnie yells he found an indian Head. We found plenty of shotgun shells and an old brass ring. We decided to hit another road out in the middle of the woods. On the way I was telling Donnie how last season My buddy Paul and I were driving down the road talking about not finding any shed antlers yet that found onyear. . All of a suddenly I yelled to stop the truck because there is a nice pair in the yard of a vacant home. About this time in my story Donnie says "Hey whatta you know!" and pulls a nice shed out of the snow. In all Donnie's years in the woods it was his first shed. It is always nice to be there for a first.
We found some more shotgun shells and got some more exercise swinging those snow covered coils. We were glad to get out and had a blast. Donnie called me a few hours ago and said he found a 1900 nickle today. Not a bad start. You all have a good one and glad to say hi. Hope the pics turned out all right.
