I talked to the Gvnr and he asked him if I could post a link to my website on here and he said it should be fine. I only put my pictures on it and it isn't completed all the way yet but was looking for maybe some more input on my "Tips" page. Beginners always ask the same questions and I am hoping to help.

I am not advising anyone what scoop, or detector or any other equipment to buy. I tried to keep it as vanilla as possible. So if anyone has a sugestion feel free to share. Thanks all and have a safe wonderful season this year.

Kewl, I thought about that sometime ago, but I get so many emails and PM's now It takes a couple hours a day to answer all. Good Luck and Like that green bottle in your pic's.......

Ty Beachnut. That bottle is one of only 4 know in existence. A collector in Detroit offered me 450.00 for it and I sold it. Research showed it was made in 1852. I hope to stumble upon another one!!

You are off to a great start on your website Robert, I really liked the various photo mounts for your rings...... :clapping:

Thank you Larry and Mud. Unfortunately I sold that big pile of rings before I took individual pictures of them. Ohh well live and learn. I can't believe how many rings I have stumbled upon and I WISH I could have kept them all!! Four platinum, hundreds of gold and over a thousand silver. But they pay for my fun all summer and its what I love to do so I guess the trade is worth it.

I am so ready to jump in a lake!! Just wish the lakes were ready for me!

scubadetector, Great website. Sites like yours is a wealth of knowledge for guys in my boat that are thinking about getting into water hunting. I like how you included some great info on safety also. Will bookmark your site. HH.

Thanks Pointer. Safety for all is my NUMBER 1 concern. I am only on this website and I wished to help out anyone here that wanted it BUT there was NOWHERE to put my tips. That's why I asked the powers that be. The same questions get asked over and over and this was the way I knew how to help.

I have my ways of doing things, I have my favorite machines and scoop. People think a book will help them but I don't really see that as the case. Start slow and learn BUT be safety conscious. My tank was hit by a sail boat keel and rolled me over. A pontoon boat went right over top of me, and a jet ski. Its dangerous out there Not once but twice boaters tried to pull me up with my dive flag. They had NO idea what it was. WHY a flag isn't made with a diver silhouette down the white stripe I will never know. They make patches that way. Again thanks

What a great site. I loved the pictures of your finds. Sounds dangerous where you dive with those trawlers! Well done with the returned rings, i think that is a great thing to do, definitely post more of those success stories on your site, they are awesome. I will definitely recommend your site to my friends. Hope the freeze is nearly over for you now, and you're back in the lakes soon. Good luck scubadetector:)

Lots of good stuff! I very much like the emphasis on safety. Very important and easy to overlook when first venturing into the water.

I know in southern trips where the water is warm and clear it is tempting to walk bare foot while detecting ... don't. Glass and sharp metal hide, a slip on the scoop, little rays or other creatures trying to hide or defend themselves from being stepped on; protect the feet too!
Cheers,
tvr

Great to see all the gold and silver rings. But I love the toys and lures too.

I'm puzzled by the German badge. Did you find that in one of the lakes in Michigan? How did it get there??
It's is a "Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz" from WWII (for German soldiers wounded in battle).
Herewith a link with some info. Scroll to halfway.

Yes, found it in a lake near Lapeer Michigan. It was so caked with sand that was stuck to it I had no idea what it was and stuck it in my unidentifiable finds box. The next spring we had a start the year detecting party at my house and one of my friends was looking through the box. He saw the swords on it. Told me to soak it in olive oil which I did. And yes it is a wound badge for solders that got wounded once or twice. How it got here, and in a lake? LOL who knows. There were German POW camps here. One of my most interesting finds for sure!

Side note. Unfortunately the friend that found it and had me clean it, drowned while detecting and wading in Michigan a few years ago. Nobody knows why. Tom Weaver who was 39, a former marine. He is one of the main reasons I post my safety tips. Water is DANGEROUS.

Thank you TVR and Bob and Kossie. I sure hope the information will be helpful to all on here and newcomers.

Nice website.
Always enjoyed your posts over the years.

Sad to hear about your friend. 39 is far too young. You can't be too cautious when diving.

He was only wading. In lake Huron at Caseville MI.

Thanks Joel. I enjoy your posts also.

Great site, nicely done. Saved in my favorites.
