Hi Gunnar,

Don't let it bum you out, I know from talking and writing to you over the past several years that you live in am older rural area. The coins that pettit found was at an old farm house, I bet there are several old houses close to you that you might have some luck at. I've searched a lot of old farms houses dating back to the 1870's, some produced old coins and others not so much. They always produced something interesting, one old farmhouse gave up some civil war relics (buttons, hat pin, nameplate) but not much in the way of old coins. All you have to do is ask the owner for permission to hunt. I like the old two story houses with stone foundations or if the house is gone and nothing left except a depression and some remnants of the stone foundation.

It's all good Gunnar, don't let it get you down! I also won't likely ever see any of those types of coins in my area as it's just not that old or what was old is covered with brick, mortar, cement and the progression of humanity. I begrudgingly resigned myself to that fact but it was rough. I have not been doing this for not even three years now but have only pulled two silver coins, both Rosie's. I have found maybe 5 wheat cents; only two of those coins actually came from where I'm located. I now just try to focus on jewelry and clad as that's what is in the cards for me unless I find a honey hole or go elsewhere for older stuff. I get a little green with envy when I see these old coins that are being found but I get my own satisfaction out of finding the jewelry; found a 13.6g 12k gold filled bracelet this morning that I'm now wearing. We just have to find our own form of enjoyment in the hobby, pat each other on the back for our finds and keep digging.

Dont let it bother you i have hunted many years and have only dug clad and what you havent seen mounds and mounds of trash

Here is a hint to you Gunnar when i hunt old homes i try to find ones that have three chimneys it seems that they are more fancy homes for there time they had more money mabe mabe not but that is where i have had the best luck

I feel the same way here in Fl, unless I get lucky at the beach with some gold...

Found a letter "J" gold pendant yesterday but very small. Still was nice.

I too envy these guys that are finding these nice old coins!

Hmm, wonder if the wife will agree to us moving out West so I could find better coins! hahah

Pete
