I've been at this metal detecting thing for about 3 years with almost a 1 year hiatus in there too. I wasn't sure if I'd ever be able to get a trifecta and hadn't really made it a goal of mine to do so. I just like getting out in the fresh air and finding neat stuff. I have been working a relatively small area of my 1890's park where I've hit silver every time out for the past 4 hunts. I've dug a ton of Merc's out of here already. Well this time I hit a Roosevelt (which was only my second from this spot) and then later hit a Barber dime (which was my first from this spot - although I had dug a deeeep Barber quarter the week before, it's in my video "Unexpected Silver"). I figured with the two toughest ones to find in this spot maybe I'll make a go of it and try to find another Merc. The problem was I had pretty much gridded the area, the Barber dime was actually on my final pass! So now what?? I started floating around the area in no general direction, dug crappy, choppy signals. I did this for about an hour. My back was killing me and I had to leave in about 10 minutes now to pick my son up from preschool. I decided in order to save my back and aggravation I'd only dig signals somewhat repeatable from 2 directions and I started gridding in the opposite direction. 1st signal - a wheatie I had missed before, good start. About 5 minutes later a jumpy dime signal... but repeatable at 90 degrees. I dug it and finally a Merc!!
