My very first time MD

This was my very first time out with my new to me XLT. I actually found a couple coins. A 1994 nickel, a 1981 quarter. I know you its not going to get me rich, but the experience was pricless. Iam definitely hooked on metal detecting.

Welcome and great job on your first hunt! This isn't so much a hobby, but a lifestyle, I think. And an addictive one at that! Keep researching those sites and the good stuff will come. Again, great job on your first hunt!

You've got a good machine there. I used an XLT for about 9 years and it was great for the parks and school hunting that i'm used to. It goes deep on the dry sand at beaches too. Stick with the presets for awhile. Read the manual over and over again before using your own settings. I find there is a lot of trial and error when beefing up the settings in the field, but it becomes easier with time and practice. Good luck! :)

welcome, quarter and a nickel is a good start. before you know it you will find a wheat cent and then a silver dime and so on. i use the xlt also. good machine. patience, good luck and HH

Again welcome, and the XLT will have you planning and dreaming of your next hunt and future finds...congrats...HH

Please accept my apologies for the incident.

WTG and congratulations on the finds and your successful first time out. :clapping:
I hunted with an XLT for a few years and they are good machines. Take your time and learn the machine and it will reward you for sure.
Read all you can here about your machine by using the SEARCH feature at the top of the header page and be sure mark it to "all dates". You will be suprised how much information is stored here.

If there is any questions there is a White's forum but please post your finds here!! If you find silver gold or something old (ohhh I am a poet!) feel free to post pictures. Enjoy our great hobby!

and the excitement of finding money in the ground! What a great day you had, and thanks for sharing it with us!:clapping:

Congratulations Scout70 :clapping:, the thrill of the hunt and recovering little treasures sure gets in your blood.... just wait until you find your first gold......

Welcome to the best hobby/addiction, I have been detecting since 1962 and still use the XLT I got back when they first were introduced. It can be a simple to use detector or as complicated as you want to make it. I prefer to keep in simple. I carry a small 10k charm in a small zip lock bag and set the detector so it hits good on the charm. Block edit to eliminate all lower numbers and accept its number and all higher numbers. Bump up the AC Sens to 75 and the Pre Amp Gain to 10. Takes less than three minutes.

Great start to a fun hobby. I started in my own yard and dug over $4.00 in clad coins. Of course I have been here over 30 years and raised two sons. Keep swinging and good things will come your way.

I can tell it is in your blood.Every were you go now you will be scouting out places to put that coil!Get out there and just do it! :-D

Welcome to the forum and to the best hobby in the world !
You have a very nice machine - I've heard a lot of great things about the White's XLT's !

Good luck this season !

Second time out with my xlt. Went to the playground and found about $1.07. Not bad for an hour. Iam really just trying to learn my detector. What sounds it makes when it hits a coin or when it hits trash. Pretty fun all in all. can't wait to find some gold or silver. Any suggestions on a good place to go around Portland Oregon ???
