MY VERY FIRST SILVER COIN

widebody

New member
[size=large]found my very first silver coin today and it was a franklin half dollar. 1954-d. was a measured 8" down. very strong signal with my D2 coil. gain at +1everything else at pre-set.all signals were in the 90's. what a very fun day with mrpoptop, my hunting buddy. the only sunny day of this week and we made the most of it. any more days this week will be cream on the top. my hb also got a great find. he'll have to be the one to discribe it.
could not get pic of reverse. ran out of memory. the camera, not me. maybe later after i get the crack in the bell fixed. i didn't break it. it was that way when i found it.

It's a good first silver too!

That's one nice first silver coin. I love the Franklin halves with the Liberty Bell. Don't worry about the crack...:), I think it will be just fine that way. BIG BIG CONGRATULATIONS! I bet you're on cloud 9 and you have every right to be. VERY nice find! HH, Nancy

been metal detecting 20 years off and on never found halve dollar
congratulation

Great job. Thats a keeper for sure! CCH

Way to go! I'm still looking for my first silver coin. Maybe one day....

[size=large]okay. so nancy says i don't need to fix the crack in the bell. so i devise a plan on how to get a pic of the reverse side of ben and Bam!!
it dawns on me. use the wife's scanner. who needs a camera? it doesn't run down the batteries ( the wife doesn't know yet ),and has endless memory.
i thought i'd mention that this is the way it came out of the ground. no clean-up. and i quess you don't want to clean these anyway. i'm gunna go out and get a special coin container for this one.
i'm not on cloud nine. i'm sitting on pluto remembering the event. this hit on 93 and bobbed around to 94, 93, 91, never left the 90's. i was waiting for a sign of foil. never came and then it said, upon pp that it was 6" down. it was the shallowest reading i could get it to read. i write this so others will have an idea of what can happen. what to look for. others who find silver all the time may have differant signs. these were mine. up til now i was convinced there was no silver in cowlitz county washington.except for a merc. my hb found a few weeks ago. now the hunt is in earnest. must research and plan and get my hunting buddy to find us another place with silver. gold wouldn't hurt.
i would like to thank Mrpoptop, my hb, for yesterdays hunt. the best i've had to date.
GOOD HUNTING TO ALL.

Great picture of the crack Widebody! She's a beauty and yes, she should be in a container to show off. Only clean silver with water and a mild soap with NO abrasive ingredients and NO brushes. Dawn is good or any liquid dish soap, shower soap, etc. When you get back to this glorious planet, I wish you the best of luck and more silver for your pouch. HH, Nancy

[size=large]as i said, it never left the 90's. nice and solid. the block was full. no doubt in the machines mind at all. this was very unexpected signs.
i dug it just to see what would cause these readings. now i know. :hot: the meter said it was 50 cents. constant. i just didn't believe it. i'm still used to my XLT and the constant 94's it gives for junk.i'm not used to the numbers not jumping around as i have on other coins and targets. now i have to go thru my old park all over again. ohhh whoaaa is meee.
Thanks Nancy.

You better go through the old parks again. I'll never forget the Franklin that I found at 1 1/2" deep. If that. I couldn't believe it and yes, it happens. You've got a very pretty coin there. It just shows that you're doing it right. Keep swinging and keep that coil to the soil. HH, Nancy

Very nice coin for a "first silver" there buddy! (Large silver can keep you in the stratosphere for extended periods of time.) Last one that I found was in an exact lineup with sprinkler heads that read similar to a half dollar and only thing that made me dig was it was about a foot out of sequence and had a small piece of aluminum with it! What a good memory for you and big congratulations!

That's a great first silver . . .congrats !

Congrats on a great 1st silver coin!! That is one coin i haven't found yet myself and someday hope to.
