Oh, I'm digging most things right now - anything deep right now I'm passing on just because the soil is rock hard from being dry, but if it's within a few inches right now, I'm digging it up in this location - if the area has been hit, it would have been 40 years ago or more, if it was hit at all then. I got permission to hunt this area, and a lot of people over a lot of time have spent time there. I did find a couple things that were other than clad - can't really call it jewelry though; it's not fully junk, but it's not silver or gold either.
Still, when there is more moisture, I will be hitting the same location and going deeper - in the meantime, I'm cleaning up everything I reasonably can. I will have to take the s-5 too, in order to do a better job of pinpointing on targets in a particular section. The area I'm working is the quadrangle of a college. I have permission on the entire campus, but the quad is where they have had various parties, a graduation every year, and all kinds of other activities. Like I say, I don't think the area has been hit by anyone just because I'm finding a lot, close to the surface, from 1960 to now. Deeper sounds are bound to be older, but that can be misleading due to construction over the years too. I'm trying to hit the least disturbed areas first for now.
But yes, I thought about the trash-to-treasure ratio and how to go about dealing with that in this location. Even if others have detected on this campus, I doubt they got everything, and even then, it would have been a long time ago - I'm sure the GT gets deeper than they were digging if they were there. Even if I know it's a screw cap or bottle cap, I'm pulling it out just so I have better odds later.
I won't disregard any suggestion when it comes to working an area. A couple people said I am wasting my time doing this, but I don't think so...
