several weeks ago I was contacted by Rick in southern Il about help with my depth issues. I went down there and hunted with him for two days. He is a real nice guy, smart, and a darn good hunter. The poor guy was cursed with some horrible luck as far as finding deep coins that particular week end. Every time he found a good target for me it would turn out to be somthing like a tiny rivit 2 inches deep.My goal was to go there to learn how to find deep coins which aparently is what happened even though we didnt actualy find any. Well The first week I got back I dug a wheaty at 8-1/2 inches deep. The signal was only a wisper, but it was high pitched and somewhat repeatable from 3 angles. at least half of these type signals turn out to be iron for me, but Ill take them odds. last night I found a brass token just smaller than a nickel at 9-11 inches deep and another wheaty at 8+ inches deep. same deal, the signal was only a wisper. I think that my problem is that these signals are so weak and inconsistant that I had been mistaking them all along for normal falsing created by the machine. I have only gotten them with sens at 31-32 and with IM-16. Most sites I hunt the ground is too noisy and I cant catch any deep signals and most of the cleaner sites are too new for coins to have worked their way down. Both of these sites where I have found the deep coins are about 70 years old and have had 4 inches of topsoil dumped on top of the ground 30 or so years ago.
So in conclusion, I now feel that in my hands, my explorer XS is capable of finding an ocasional deep coin. I am not offering any apologies for any past coments I had made, there were all justified. I understand the attempts the dealer made in training me to find deep targets and for whatever reason, I didnt get it then. I still feel that minelab needs to come up with a better training program. It should not have taken me this long to find a deep target and minelab/the dealer should have been more involved. Actualy, minelab should have to pay Rick and all of the rest from this forum for the time they took to help me.
Now for my next issue: Who can sell me a good used or new sunray probe cheap?
