My Third and Oldest Barber Half

osgood

Member
Eve before last went back to one of my favorite river spots. Thought my buddy and I had it cleaned out. We have found oldies there including buffalos, seateds, mercs, V's, and barbers (dimes, quarters), but never a large one. While recent high waters didnt erode the banks, they left a lot of muck around forcing me to hunt a little higher up the bank. Thats where i found it. It wasnt even a quarter inch deep and my pro pointer even slid on it. I knew quickly it was a coin, and when I saw the Barber head, i said yelled alright, but also thought wait this is too large for a quarter. Like other coins we find near the shore there is the gravel, sand scars , etc. Its also slightly thinner than my other barbers halves found in sod. Its got some stubborn tarnish. This should hold me for a while. thanks for lookin folks, good hunts all. CO

Awesome find osgood, I would like to add one of those to my collection. I have only found barber dimes. Only 2 halves I found were Franklins. Quarters have all been washingtons. I know there has to be some larger barbers and seateds around my town, just have not found them yet. I have found seated dimes and barber dimes though and that is how I figure there has to be some larger ones around too.GL&HH.

I'm totally jealous osgood.....I have found Barber everything else, but the
half still eludes me. Nice find for sure....:wiggle:

Dang Oz!:surprised: That's a real beauty there no matter what shape its in..what machine were you swinging? Though it being shallow probably does not matter, but I'm curious. Gonna spend a little time up on that creek bank huh?
Mud

Mud, well at least got a buffalo nickle (no date) the next evening. Was using my f75 ltd, and yes any competent machine would of got this one. Im staying with this machine a while (had it several years), it does well and my main concern is weight, of which there isnt much. If you put on a 5 inch coil it is truly feather weight. thanks, CO

Yeah that unit has done real good for you since I joined here...really like what you find and post!
Mud

Folks, Tom, one of my hunting buddies, and whose last name really is, by coincidence, the same as mine has a nose for silver, every time we get out he trumps me for silver- i dont know how he does it. We have good times out there in the field. And every time he says hes waiting for his first, he shortly there after gets what hes after.- its amazing. Good Hunts, CO

Congrats on a great find !

That is like the find that makes you King in my area...I do not think I have heard of one being pulled from around here...WTG!!!
