my teknetics mark 1 ltd

well iv looked for a mark 1 for years now and finally found one. All i got was the control box and coil cause i had plans to mod the mark 1 and didnt need the shaft. I still have some work to do on it. Rite now its running off of 2 9v batts and 2 AA's. the 9 volts are just hot glued in the bottom were the original shaft was. I plan on going back with all AA's to increase the run time on a set of batts. Im thinking of back lighting the meter cause i hunt at night bunch. I wanted to keep the red and black finish but the red was faded bad so i sprayed it bed liner. I also would like to find some original labels in better shape than whats on it now. Im also going to order all new capacitors for it. So hope this gives some one some ideas for a mod.

Remember if it squeeks a little over a target it's most likely going to be about a 6" Silver dime..One of the best Silver dime machines I ever used..

yeah i havent used one but my grampa had one. he would smoke me back in the 80's with it. I had a compass x100 and that thing killed my 11 year old arm. i would get tired fast and just watch him nail silver after silver with the mark 1. he gave his away to my uncle around 92. So in 97 when i got back into detecting hard and heavy i stared wanting a mark 1. well i got one finally yay lol

Mark 1 is too heavy for my 52 year old arm.14 AA cells don't help any. By the way, I think I have a 10 .5 inch Mark 1 coil if anybody is interested in it? I am in need of a 5 x 10 elliptical coil for my Tesoro Lobo ST, we could swap?
Thanks.

I dont have any tesoro parts. I wouldnt mind seeing a pic of the coil. I could buy it if i like it. I know a guy that may have some tesoro parts il ask him.

.......How about a picture of the battery compartment??.........Also what material did you use to plug the hole where the original meter was??...........Thanks ......Joe

i haven't finished the batt compartment yet but when im done il post some more pics. the meter hole is covered with thick plastic i cut off out of a plastic file box . Its not as hard as the plastic used to make the control box but its hard enough to cover the meter hole and doesn't have much flex.

i still have some miner problems to fix with all the plastic mods i did but for the most part im happy with it. the meter pod i made is weak at the spot that mounts it to the plastic that bolts onto the shaft. Il have to open it up and add some more plastic in to strengthen it up some. dealing with plastic isnt easy. it has to be heated to a point that its very sticky or tacky on the surface so that the surfaces stick really good but not so hot that all the plastic starts to warp and melt. I dont use glue when i make things from plastic cause i never found a glue or epoxy that worked any better than the plastic alone. I cut plastic into long thin sticks and use them like welding rods with a heat gun and soldering iron. once im done i file and sand the plastic at the joints so that they all look smooth and uniform.
