My take on the V3I

Got hold of a V3i and I didn't think I was going to like it but a friend left it with me and said see if you can find out how this works. I tired a lot of forum programs to no avail. But I had a DFX a long time ago that I didn't like but learned it. So I started to read and watch videos and read more and some forum members helped me. I created a program using about half of what you can use on the V3i to program it.

Took it out to a school and started to see what the machine could do. I was very happy that I could run it a bit hot and fast not as fast as the G2 but good enough. It was very deep. I dug a small thin silver fan at about 9 inches and rings at 3-10 inches and in my ground that is really good. It did false from time to time but that is the trade off when running a detector hot. I did find after almost the end of the day that smaller silver runs at a lower VDI. Small silver was in the 60s and I did find a war nickle and it hit at about 59 because of the silver in the coin.

I had an easy time telling clad from crown caps and that made for over $15.00 in clad coins for about four hours of hunting. The more I tried to understand the expert menu the more I grew tired of trying to grasp what I was reading even with Carl's expert guide. I was more interested in the filters and used a 10 for mid to high minerals in the Calif ground. I also understand that can effect your depth along with your sweep speed or recovery speed. I think that is cool but I could not hunt in the lower filter because we don't have the best dirt in our area.

But when all is said and done I would have to learn how to assign VDI tones to the targets I wanted to be alerted to. So a great forum member is helping me to understand how to do that. And I am interested in mixed mood but don't know if that will be a bit deeper? There are a lot of things you can program but I also think there are not as many changes you need to make from a preset program to make it work better for you. I would guess some of the users don't dig really deep into this machine and I would think if you take your time then you can keep learning more. But thank God for the forum so can pick your brains for info!

I know this machine is a great school and park hunter but would have to see what it can do for relic hunting in high iron/trash. I guess the smaller coil would be better? But this machine is built like a tank and even no it is over 4lbs it is really balanced and I can swing it for hours with no soreness.

You did all the most logical stuff and it shows. You stuck with what you did figure out, got out of places you hadn't yet, did well....sounds like you know how to approach a learning curve.
