My take on the 800

Well-known member
I have been testing for a month now off and on between the ctx and 800. Here are some facts the ctx is in a league of it's own when it comes to ID lets take a 3 inch nail north and south over a quarter the ctx well read 12.43 now 2 nails over the quarter 12.41 dime 12.42 1 nail 2 nails 12.39 the nickel 1 nail 12.13 2 nails 12.12 okay .

The 800 quarter 1 nail 23 to 26 2 nails 19 to 24 dime 1 nail 20 to 22 2 nails 19 to 22 nickel 1 nail 12.13 to 12.14 2 nails 12.13 to 12.15.

This is not a speed test speed dose not matter in this case the detector is seeing it as 1 target blended no separation now if we add more nails say 4 or 5 the IDs stay pretty close to what you get for 2 nails ?

You can see the difference here but if you go with digging your high tones from 19 up you will not miss these as to the nickel with the 800 your SOL that 12.13 to 12.14 could be a tab bottle cap or other 12.13 to 12.15 could include more tabs and bottle caps .

I ran the 800 in a sea of tabs and bottle caps in a area 30 x 50 over a 100 12.13 I got bottle caps and tabs to check all these in 10HZ is not worth it .

What do I like about the 800 the speed it well do better on iron and tabs close to coins than the CTX will be giving them a duel tomorrow . So as long as you know where the IDS fall the 800 will hunt I did notice when I had a coin jumping from 19 to 25 it was a coin or a non-ferrous target . (WHEN THE #S JUMPED 19 TO 39 IT WAS IRON ) anytime that 39 showed up it was iron well see how tomorrow go's .

The 11inch coil is tight as far as I can tell if your not dead center these #s well very even more when IDing not like the CTX which seems to have a wider field for the same size coil .sube

Yes, I noticed that as well, and believe Minelab tightened up the 'aperture' of the DD's overlap.
The overlap is narrower than the CTX...and I believe the resulting 'blade' of the detection field is correspondingly sharper...more 'knife-like'.
(It definitely feels different.)

And Sube one of my most pressing questions regarding popularity of the Equinox is this....would you take it out in lieu of the 3030 based strictly on WEIGHT? Just a question...

Would be more informative if you included the settings...

No Minelab has given you more options to customize this detector to your soil and hunting conditions compared to the ctx . As far as depth it's on par with the ctx as far as I can see . Minelab new that you could not make a detector for every environment that's why they gave so many options to tailor it to your environment it works right out of the box for newbs but has a lot of settings that can improve your results .It looks like minelab is trying to make smarter detectorist kind of what whites tried with the dfx but people were not ready for that at the time .

The thing about this detector is your going to have to learn what it's saying just like any other detector out there .

As for settings I ran factory park 1 but ran in all metal to judge the differences in tone . sube
