My take on a T-2...

Dan-Pa.

New member
First let me say I have no connections with Teknetics or any detector dealer..and it may work different in your neck of the woods..
Pro's...Its light, excellent ergonomics, ability to swing at almost any rate, but feel for extreme depth need a quick sweep..easy to setup and change facets at will, ground balances easily in either manual or fastgrab, but prefer manual for a more accurate balance, excellent pinpoint, 6 different tone setup and all metal so feel it can be used well for coins, relics or even gold nuggets.Excellent size meter with good ID and can be seen well under all light conditions..I feel its capable of 8 inch plus depth on coins depending on experience in the field and setting up for your area. Also like the position of the trigger switch many holes to set the armcup for your arm length and the ability to bend the armcup to fit well..Very sensitive and picked up BB size iron at 6-7 inches.11 inch coil really covered a lot of area.Cosmetically seemed to be well made and super paint job that will take abuse.Haven't used on a saltwater beach and all we have in Pa. is coal nuggets so no comment. With 7 frequencies to change to imagine two T-2 hunters could easily hunt together and with this facet and super pinpointing abilities along with coverage should make a excellent planted hunt unit.Whoops almost forgot easy to tell size of the target and audio variances gives you an idea of the target..
Cons..nightlight would be nice, prefer a thicker handgrip, is subject to outside electrical interferences but can be eliminated or tuned down by reducing sensitivty or changing a choice of 7 frequencies, I am a slow swinger by nature and really feel like an XLT a faster speed equates to more depth and I was not comfortable swinging faster, however feel will accomodate any swing speed. I really feel expect a learning period in selecting facets and settings that works best for your area but probably true of any new unit to a degree.
I had no problem with loose batteries or armcup problems as previously noted by some fellows or unit shutting off when placing down.
In conclusion I am no English Major or typist so take that in to consideration..This unit is very sensitive and may work better in some areas and of a lot depends on experience in the field in setting up for your area. Probably missed something along the way and my opinions only so take that into consideration..Unfortunately for silver coin hunting in my area I need super depth with a slow swing as a faster one would wear me out and I am going back to a CZ as an Explorer is too heavy. Is this unit for everyone certainly not but many swing faster than me naturally and would prefer the lightweight unit, coverage and super pinpointing, depth, target seperation all in a user friendly fashion..

You gave a fair evaluation of the T-2 for you in your area, and personal taste.

There are some real good detectors out there that I don't hunt with for the same type of reason you gave, they just don't feel good to me physically to use. Right now in the places I have been hunting the T-2 is doing it well, but you are correct in thinking that it reminds you of a XLT in a strange sort of way.

I like the Fisher CoinStrike for the same reason as the T-2, and always had a difficult time slowing down using a CZ. Hey different strokes for different folks. :)

Have a nice day

Bill

Coming from you old friend its quite a compliment...I think you hit the nail on the head we all hunt different, in different areas...with personal preferences..I know my old XLT friend would murder them with a T-2 as he had a natural fast sweep and he would be hunting in my neck of the woods..Come to think of it far and few between on classifieds so I must be the minority...In any case T-2 has got a winner in my book...Would just love to see other takes on the T-2 in their neck of the woods..Too many wallflowers, not enough dancers...
PS have used a CZ since 92 and tough to teach an old dog new tricks...

Dan,

I too have seen some of this too, but for me I seem to have to swing slower it seem to get the ID to be correct. Now if I swing faster the ID will not lock on a coin with the number bouncing more. What I have to do is get a good signal, then go slower like I do with the Sovereign and wiggle just over the target to get it to ID correct. Speaking of ID have you notice pull tabs that are deeper will give a high tone like a good coin and read higher also? I was out last Saturday at a park with 2 guys with the Explorer and I had them find a few good signal for my T-2 to check out. On the deeper ones I seen most of them, but they did see some my T-2 couldn't see or one I would not dig the way the acted.I did dig a lot of pull tabs that sounded good. I also notice if I got within 20 feet of one of the Explorers the T-2 would chatter a bit being it was so sensitive, but by raising the disc or lowering the sensitivity it made it better as freq changed wouldn't.
The few con things I would ad is the ID is not accurate as the Sovereigns or the Explorers if it is deeper than 5 or 6 inches it seems. I don't like the nickles giving a high tone of a good coin when using the 3b or the db tones, never tried the 2 tones and probably should.
Most all the pros you mention I feel the same way and it is a good detector, but not perfect, but which one is?
I too feel mine should find a home where others have a chance to try it and see if it can do better for them that what they are using. Like you say Dan every area is different and what works for one may not work for others.
Thanks for your report Dan, was good to read.

Rick

Hi Rick

In the first 2 tones your meter reading is in real time.

Other tones do give you a average reading. Can't remember what ones. I don't have my owners manual in front of me, but if you take a gander through yours it will explain. This may be the "Why" to your number changes ????

Mr. Bill

Hi Dan

Thank you.

Yes we do go back a long way. :) I think after talking with you years ago, I purchased a Cz-6. My views haven't changed on it. :) but I still keep a CZ-70 around.

Later, have a nice day
Bill

and its goin' too classfied after a week. i told you to e-mail me as i wanted first shot @ buyin it! i called it. go back and look. You just dug a bunch a indian heads at a worked out park. have u ever keep a new mashine more then a week?

Teknetics offers us a 6 tone selection and dial in all metal sort of gives us 7 detectors in one as all are different to a degree..As I said originally extremely easy to set up and change facets at will, but expect a learning period to see what combinations excells for our area and type of hunting we do..Charles Garrett once said expect at least 100 hours on a detector to start to use it efficiently.

Thanks for joining the dance and giving us your input as it was appreciated..As for wallflowers give us some input even if it is only one aspect as they are only opinions and perhaps we can all learn a bit...

Guess I am searching for the Holy Grail of detectors which don't exist.Have to say the T-2 is the best to come along in quite a while even though I can't handle the faster swing and need a deep seeker with a slow swing. As far as detectors go have used a CZ since 92...
Come join the dance with some productive input so we can all learn...

Mine has the R-6 newest update and certainly the best new detector I have tried in many years...Unfortunately did not meet my physical needs as I need a slow swing unit to fit my needs...certainly doesn't mean it may not meet your needs as Mr. Bill says different swings err strokes for different folks...

Dan,

I do agree that the T2 is one of the best machines been released in a while. I am also used to swinging slow because I own an Explorer and 3D. There are issues that I've bought up in the past about pulltabs reading up too far (into the 70's) when they're deep. There are some places this seems to be more of a problem than others. But, even with those problems the T2 is impressive on how fast it can reset between targets. I also like the T2 in iron alot. IMHO, it's on the same level as an Explorer in iron. The only thing I would recommend before getting rid of your T2 is to take into an iron infested area. I've been very pleased in specific areas where I thought there wasn't much left the T2 was able to get some coins. For ME, the T2 fills a niche in my detectors that I have been looking for. The T2 is nice and light. It's just at home in a park as it is relic hunting. There are definitely areas I prefer my Explorer and 3D. But, then again I have almost 6 years on the Explorer and a couple on my 3D. But, I don't hesitate on grabbing my T2 which is saying something considering my other machines. There are definitely things I don't like about the T2. But, there are things I don't like about my other machines. If you check back on my post you'll definitely find out I'm not a wallflower.... :D I liked your post and can respect your honest opinion. I'd rather read some counterpoints like yours on a machine before I buy it than find out the problems after I buy it. That's why I've always done, like you, offered counterpoints on machines. I don't bash... I offer both pros/cons on every machine I've owned. But, they're just my opinion. I took alot of crap on the Explorer forum when I did a side by side test with my 3D & Explorer a couple of years ago. But, by now people know I tell it like I see it out in the field. I'm not a sugar coater or brand loyal by any stretch of the imagination. The T2 is staying in my arsenal. The last machine that I kept was the 3D. Thanks for the post!
