my T2 maiden voyage :detecting:

Well, everyone thought I was crazy going detecting today as the humidity was over 100 here :hot: But, I really wanted to get out there & try the T2 in the field. I read the manual a few times, & played with some air tests first. I tried one of my old Colonial sites that has produced for us in the past. I went with the preset 60 sens which seemed pretty stable. First I used 1 tone to get usted to it, then switched into 3 tones which I always liked on my CZ's (low med high). Delta pitch was very hard to get usted to...maybe after awhile.
Anyhow, it was easy to balance & I think set itself @ 90. I put the disc on 40 to get rid of iron.
I LOVE the trigger! (something I asked for on every Fisher). I also really like the pinpoint.....sounds like VCO, & LOVED seeing the very accurate number in inches on the large screen. Didn't realize how much I missed this as compared to having to do math on say what a 36 is for depth on a Coinstrike :) Also, the pinpoint is so good I found it was awesome for sizing targets. A shallow iron ox shoe fooled the ID, but upon pinpoint showed it was a large target. Very cool....
Though I never used a DD coil before, the accuracy of the inches meter made it easy to dig targets...
I really like the coil & fast sweeping ability. I felt I was covering alotta area quickly & not missing anything. Like the manual said, (& most units I use are this way), I waited for repeatble signals. The overall balance/weight on my right arm was excellent as well. I didn't get tired like I do with some of the big box Fishers......
I knew this thing had power on my first signal. A small shard of aluminum can @ 5" that hit hard. MY second target was a pretty good one. It looked like a colonial copper, but instead was a 1700's coat button with a dot pattern on the edge (some gold gilt remains on back).

My next targets were 2 musketballs.....one a "dropped" & the other fired....flattened cause it hit something (or someone) :O If only our finds could talk right? :)
I drank tons of water & decided to stay in the shade...the sun was blazin'. Well, the shade turned out OK I guess......as the T2 hit on a signal in the 70's @ 6"...
Up comes another button that looked like a nickle @ first,,,but I turned it over & was surprised to see "LA 1" surrounded by 16? stars! I have found these cuff sized before....some are considered War of 1812 Light Artilley 1st regiment button. (I'll have to pull my books to be sure...no backmark). Or when was there 16 states?? Anyhow....A real nice find for the first time out with the T2.

I had gridded this area off in the past & missed it I guess. Perhaps all the rain had an effect, but the T2's power & frequency helped too. I think the T2 is gonna be great on early & valuable buttons like these.....
Finally here are the rest of the items that surfaced after a quick rinse. Lots of melted lead, tiny bits, etc.....It really hits hard on tiny stuff that I could have used a probe....

Definately a successful first outing...I'm very happy with the T2 so far.

and keep in mind that, as I'm sure you well know, one of the most challenging conditions for any detector is the heat of the day in the hottest part of the sumer, and you obviously did quite well with this handicap!

WTG Bill on the T2 maiden voyage and those cool finds,

It brings great joy to hear you enjoy the T-2, I knew you would and Thanks Mr. Bill for loaning a T-2 to Bill.

The depth meter is right on with coin size objects, If it says 8" inches it is 8 inches and so forth. The large DD coil is amazing too, you'll never want to go back to a regular coil and this large DD coil gets impressive separation even in the trashiest iron laced sites...........Learn to hunt with the 2-tone feature with a low disc allowing some iron to be heard, Since you hunt old sites and dig everything.

Too much discrimination will create masking on good conductive signals so you need to hear some iron as you swing, Looking forward to more of your T-2 adventures.

Congrats Bill :)

like I mentioned, usually considered from the War of 1812 period, Light Artilley 1st regiment. My Alberts book places this one with a lined field as an "AY 43A"....
(I need to shoot a better picture as it was still wet when I snapped this last night).
Like I said, I think the frequency of the T2 is going to really help my recovery of these type buttons. The 1812 & Revolutionary buttons we find here are worth FAR more than rotted copper coins for sure. I was just offered $300 for the last button I found that pre-coast guard Treasury one with the "shine". Since I have been hunting all these sites with 6-7khz Fishers (which are better on coins), it's going to be fun re-hunting the places again with the T2. Hopefully more military buttons will surface....

There should be a law that all metal detectors have to be fitted with the T2 pinpoint :crylol:

We all knew you would like the T2. Now that its 'family', there is no disgrace in inter-detector relationships. Just think of it as your sister, er...I mean the CoinStrike's first cousin. Yeh..thats it, first cousins

I've got bad news for you Bill; it only gets better!

To call it pinpoint is an understatement I'd say. It's more like an inquiring pinpoint. I have not used but the Nautilus IIB and incredible how you can feel a target out which is very similar to the pinpoint mode on the T2. You can accurately size a target with it and like I said before, I think it hits wider (in pinpoint) on certain metals??? Anybody notice that? The Nauty does that and it's a great help with Id'ing iron. I only played with it yesterday for any amount of time (on the T2), but I'd swear certain targets were wider in pinpoint (sound-wise) but similar in size physically.

Again, the combination of (seamingly unrelated) features on this machine is awefully sweet and the speed in which you have access to them is just awesome. Hard to believe that such a apparently simple layout could be so powerful... I guess it's much more than what it first appeared to me by just reading the manual.

I don't miss my Nauty so far.

Yep, I've noticed that difference. Have you noticed you can hear the tilt of the object? You can tell if its lying flat or tilted. You can also hear the stuff around and beneath a target. Lot of stuff information in that little trigger switch :super:

Inquiring Pinpoint...Yeah!

I'm anxious to try the T2 at the new cellar hole & quarry site I found recently.......

Thanks Mike, great info you are sharing. It would have probably taken me quite a few more digs to realize that (actually more as my "removal method" is nothing to write home about... need better tools). I've only dug 2 coins so far due to trash but I think I just need to search for 4" and deeper targets to raise my total (in these trashy areas as new Euro coins sound a bit like trash at this point, but that will fade. The older coins, so far, are unique.). I've been digging allot of signals to "put a picture with the sound". Learning my machine by digging.

What have you noticed? Is it the signal strength? I bet it correlates with the Id in discrimination mode?

Getting dark, no time to hunt today. :sadwalk:

Have you pushed the trigger instead of pulling the trigger? ehehe
With my Nauty, every so often I would adjust "ground balance" thinking it was discrimination... :yikes: (I can laugh now)

I really glad to see you swinging a T2. The main reason being I have alot of respect for your abilities of git'r dun ;) in the field and understanding what a machine is tell you and being able to give insight to others. Anyways, one word of caution with the GB always at 90. I recently had a coil go bad and went from GB of 55-78 to the last outing before the T2 was sent back that it wanted to GB at 90 all of the time. If I wouldn't have had the T2 out before I wouldn't have known. Just something to watch. The T2 still functioned and found stuff even with the coil being bad. The other side of the coin was I found out that First Texas's customer service is first rate. They were very quick and extremely helpful. They put on a new coil and calibrated it to my T2 and update the machine to rev 6... :D

As far as in the field, I am very satified with my T2. It is excellent in iron. As you have found out it is very sensitive to smaller objects that other machines wouldn't give a peep on. I really think they T2 is right up your 'alley' with the type of hunting you do. Is still love my CZ-3D but really like the T2 in iron ridden sites and places where it's digging everything above iron... :) Good luck and I'm looking forward to your field outings with the T2.

-Bill

I almost forgot I also like to 'thumb' the dial especially between tone modes!

It is interesting to see you try the T2 since you are a big Fisher user. I think Nasa Tom tried one also I know he is working on a new machine for fisher. I tried the T2 but used it for parks and schools and I really think it is a relic machine so I did miss out even know Paul (old Calif) has tried to convince me to buy another one since I now love hunting old empty lots if I can find one.

I hate to think what will happen when they make a new small coil I think everyone that has one is going to go crazy if it works and works well. I guess you will have to rehunt the good places again?

I am waiting for fall and winter to see what is going to happen with out hobby and if any new detectors are going to come out that live up to the T2. I think we all are waiting to see if the next generation of detectors is going to be born. I have read about the Pluse Devil and the Micro One but nothing on when they will be ready to sell. So I do hope something new comes out and I do hope the T2 finds its place in the top ten detectors of all time. If nothing comes out I will get the T2 and the small coil and if something new comes out but can't do what the T2 can do I will get the T2 so the T2 is looking very good and Paul loves it!
