My sucky Scorpion sure does find a lot of stuff!

Sucky if you listen to what so many seem to say about it anyway! This is not my favorite detector to use but I just can't argue with how it finds stuff! The only really noteworthy stuff so far is two wheats, over a dollar in clad, an old transit token and some cool bullet casings. Mind you, I found more with that Scorpion in one week than I've found in an equal amount of 'swinging time' using my other detector all last year! Now to be fair, I've only just started going consistently, and just got permission to hunt a KILLER location. Still...I can't help but notice how much this detector is sucking.....stuff out of the ground!

It's chattery, and noisy, in fact I've thought about naming it chatty Cathy just because it never really seems to be settled. I have noticed one 'quirk' with this detector though-it must be way more sensitive than my other because if I"m near ANYTHING electrical the threshold tone is broken by interference. I'm taking that as a good thing though since my other detector never seemed to notice!

Once you understand what chatty-cathy is telling you, you will be amazed at how it will perform with you. It's been around for a long time, and somewhat forgotten because of all the new machines being marketed. BUT......it sure beets the heck out of a lot of the new stuff out there at aat a price substantially more then the Stinger. It has somewhat of a learning curve to it. The longer you use it, the better you understand it. It's nice to hunt without any visual aids for a change, and you end up using your ears more instead of your eyes, and that often that leads to more good finds. Glad you like it. I did quite well last year in the ring department with mine. :)

John, I can only HOPE to duplicate those results!! I know this thing's gonna work for jewelry just fine though because I found a wee earring back the other morning! Too bad I didn't find the good part. Before I sold my other detector I took them both out for a head to head test. I do notice the Scorpion sometimes hits on targets either too small to find, or just some mineralized soil (targets actually disappear sometimes). However, my other detector didn't even notice these targets! Also, I've seen many posts about the Scorpion not being much for depth...I'm not sure I totally agree! I mean, it may not be AS deep as some others, but I've found doodads and such at depths way greater than folks say it can hit! Now if it could just keep me out of the poison ivy... :ranting:

My Scorpions will sound off on nickles(in all metal) at 13 inches plus, stuff like axe heads at 24 inches plus, sometimes quite a bit over that actually, and I did find out that it will sound on stuff that the Garrett pinpointer won't even beep on=WE talkin small, like pieces of a necklace fastener, or small earring, :detecting:

The key with the Scorpion is to have the controls set up properly. Then the depth factor increases and so does the sensitivity for tiny targets. After all, it was designed to find tiny gold nuggets AND also back up as a coin and relic hunter.

This is true! So far I've just used auto/discriminate mode but I have popped over to auto/all metal a couple times briefly. I've honestly been shocked at the air test in all metal! I'm still not comfortable enough that I don't dig everything anyway, so next time I hit that old homesite I figured I'd go over an area that is quiet in disc mode with the all metal mode and see what happens..

it has really given me fits is on the exposed lakebeds I've been hunting lately. Not because of the machine, but because of all the bottlecaps!! Since it uses a DD coil, it really loves the bottlecaps, especially the older, rusty ones. I usually can tell that it's a bottlecap cuz it gives kind of a scratchy sound, but I can't leave something behind that MIGHT be good. When I first bought mine, my intent was to use it for more of a relic machine, but after a couple of spins with it, I decided it could hunt anywhere for anything!!
