My Sovereign I use in the field.Fitted for my ergonomics.

My Sovereign Elite has a standard GT rod assembly, and handle.Maybe not the best balanced or lightest but a good trade off for storage and transporting. The Sunray S-1 probe is one of the older big box types cut down,I like the performance on these older models. The Sunray box has a modified clamp to eliminate the need for a V clip, this lets me move the toggle switch to the exact position to flip the switch on and off with a finger without removing my hand from the handle. The probe it self is carried on the side near the handle and box for easy reach and quick reattachment back in the carry bracket. The meter is one of my older models from a repair. The meter rain cover is a stock Cen Tech pin pointer holster.Everyone has their own mods to make their Sovereign a tricked detector.I hope to get out this week for a little detecting.HH Ron

Looks like you're ready to do battle Ron...sweet looking set-up.

I'm surprised you don't have a problem with the meter being so close to the 10x12. I have a quarter glued to the inside, toe of my hunting boots, and I have to really watch my stride when using the 10x12 , it's that sensitive.

Nice looking setup Ron i cant see anyone going wrong with that SEF coil and i like that rain cover for the meter , one i noticed like Frank said that coil is very sensitive i cant get my shovel any closer then 15 inches next to it .
Good luck out there . Jim

Ron,
What's that white stuff on the ground, (from bone-dry NM)??

Nice looking setup Ron. Yea, I'd get that meter further away from the coil. I'd be worried about the double image top and bottom of the coil creating dead spots due to the meter perhaps. I won't even wrap the coil cable until after it's past the grip just to keep it as far away from the coil as possible. Any coil, not just the SEF. I flip the V-clip snap adjustment pin upside down too to point it away from the coil. Using the much longer Whites tall man carbon fiber lower rod and a much shorter upper shaft also gives me a bit more confidence no metal is near the coil that might cause any potential issues.

That 12x10 looks wicked, don't it? Can't wait to hear your opinions on it with some field use.

I hated the stock grip and shaft. Needlessly heavy and that grip never felt comfortable to me. When I bought my GT used I noticed the guy had the grip mounted the wrong direction. Bet that was uncomfortable with that awkward angle. Even though I use the stock shaft as my water rig I ditched the stock grip for it and used a bike end bar. Much more comfortable, and with the rubber grip cover I used it won't hold water like the foam on the stock grip either.

Critter, the little bit of wading I've done with the Sovereign the stock handle had too much flex.Last season I noticed a lot of drag even on the little 800 coil when swept through the water. If I was going to do more wading another rod assembly would be used, but for land I prefer the stock GT setup. Before the field hunt the SEF is going on a diet the scuff cover is going to be removed.LOL I hope the SEF performs as well as it looks. It actually looks like it was meant for the Sovereign. Thanks HH Ron

Yep Ron, those SEF coil covers for the 12x10 and 15x12 weight a good bit. I wouldn't spray any bed liner on the bottom though until you're sure it's not a dud so you can return it, although I've rarely heard of bad SEFs on the FBS or BBS units. That coil should give 11.5" of depth at full blast sensitivity in a low EMI environment on a clad dime with the GT. If I buy another as a backup and it don't do that I'm sending it back. This was with the Sovereign wiggle and first reaction of the threshold, meaasured with a yard stick in the foreground of a camera to be precise. I held the coil still after several attempts to mark the reaction point. 11.5" every time. 11" for the Ultimate. 10 to 10.5" for the 10" Tornado. 9.5 to 10" for the 8" Tornado. 8.5" for the S-5. 9 to 9.5" for the S-12. From memory on all these that is. I have dug deeper coins with some of these coils in some soils/sands than the air tests indicate because of the unique way these BBS machines need a ground load to run at optimum performance.

I would had to be behind you with that setup...I'm sure there would be very little goodies left...
