My Son's new Tesoro.

My Boy got his Compadre today. We only had about 15min before it got dark. But, he couldn't wait till morning to take it out. We went out to the back yard and he made his first find. A 2007 penny. He was pumped ! I must have dropped it when I was repairing the fence a couple of years ago. But , hey , it's a legit find ! The Compadre is a cool little machine ! He loves it ! Good Luck all ! HH

That's great!!!!

Now just balance the fun with doing the hobby in the correct way...No messy holes..Always take junk with you and never detect anywhere you don't have permission.

Wish my kids showed interest...lol

Already taught him about cutting small plugs , and he has a finds/trash pouch and knows to take all trash with him. I know the Compadre is not just for kids. That's one of the reasons I bought it. It's a real detector with a great reputation. Not a piece of junk toy made for kids to play with for 5 mins. And it's nice and light , so he can handle it. We're gonna hit a park or two today !

Sounds like you have tons of fun ahead of you.

We hit a local beach today. Nothing but trash. But had a good time. The Compadre seemed to false a little in the wet sand ( just as another detectorist I ran into told me it would. ) "Papa Joe" I think he said his forum name was. Nice guy. But , the Tesoro worked great in the dry sand ! Sadly , the beach is just too small. Nothing good today. I need to take a trip to Daytona or something. Make a whole day trip out of it.

Problem with beach's is they draw every guy and gal with a detector. So unless the beach was packed with people using it. There is not a lot to share. Also sometimes weather patterns can take the targets and bury them deeper than most vlf machines can find them.
But the good thing is to look for parks with wood chips, and parkways along the street, esp. bus stops.

Wet sand gives most detectors fits...if you can deal with the noise great but I would stick to the dry.
