My son and I were hunting a sugar cane field in south Louisiana near an old plantation home on Sunday. I found a musket ball and a poker chip in this same area the day before, then on Sunday my son found a very old Spanish coin. Date 1800 and in pretty good condition. The coin is silver and about the size of a dime. My son was hunting with a new XT-705. Research tells us it's reale, but not sure if a 1 or 1/2, does anyone know? He obviously had the best find of the weekend!

by the diameter of the coin.

1/2 REAL or One-Half "Bit" is equivalent to American HALF-DIME or 1/16 PESO also called a PICAYUNE, DIAMETER: 16.4 mm - 17,7 mm

1 REAL or One "Bit" is equivalent to American DIME or 1/8 PESO, DIAMETER: 20.3 mm - 21.6 mm

HOLY SMOKES!!!! im 16. i use the Xterra 70, and my oldest coin is a 1824 large cent up here in NW Ohio(you beat me but we dont have to make that known haha) Congrats to you and your son! i would love to find a SILVER REALE!!!! some day i guess!!!! awsome find!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbup:

That is a pretty col old coin I would LOVE to find something that old here. Yeah ain't gonna happen.

That is a really nice coin. I can imagine how big his smile was when he beat ole DAD.
