My silver uMax arrived today. I have a cold so only was out about a half hour around my back yard. I like the uMax. Not really knowing yet what I'm doing after briefly looking at the manual. I did find a few things. I need to learn the picture taking thing to share here. The clad money i found was a few pennies,
two dimes and two quarters. One of the quarters from 2000 was a 1788 south Carolina something....also found a ring that kind of looks like silver but i don't think it is but has a number in it...825....anyone know what that means? also i found the bottom of a small copper oil can? This could be a lot of fun.....lol

Hay Bluesky,

Sounds like you are getting along with the Silver. I love mine.

Congradulations on your find. It may well be silver. It took me 24 years to find my first silver ring.

But I'm making up for lost time.......... Check this out.

This was written by Sheryl Gross Shatz, Certified Gemologist

The purest form of silver is expressed as .999 fine. Other forms and their names are:

1. Brittania--95% silver--can be marked "950"

2. Coin Silver--90% silver--can be marked "900", "coin" or "standard".

3. Continental Silver (European)--80% silver--can be marked "800", "825" (82.5%), "830" (83%),or "850"(85%).

4. Silverplate--base metal--coated with silver by electroplating. NOTE--Often by doing an examination with
your loupe you can determine that the piece in question is plated. The base metal will show through where
repairs have been made or there has been a lot of wear. Areas that have lost the plating may be a different
color or are duller than those still plated.

5. Sterling Silver--92.5% silver--925 parts silver and 75 parts copper--can be marked "925" or "sterling"

So your ring may well be 82.5% silver. The alloy could cause the color to be a little different than what silver
silver normally looks like.

Bluesky, Glad you got your new detector in!:clapping: It already sounds like you may have found some silver based upon your description! Hope you get over the cold so you can get out a swing that new Tesoro :tesoro: Enjoy and keep us posted! HH TonTX :)

Congratulations you've got your hands on a great detector.
The only problem that I've had is finding enough time to get
out and detect. I have not been detecting much for the last
week but it sure hasn't stopped me from dreaming. It is
amazing how many places that you will pass thinking I
sure wish I could detect there.

Wow, found silver in your first 30 minutes? Big time congrats! Sounds like a White's commercial :nono: !

Seriously, good luck with it!

Congrats on the silver UMax. I just received my Vaquero on Monday. I couldn't wait to take it out for a test drive so I called my hunting buddy and we went to an old school site. Now I kid you not, my buddy had not even got his detector turned on when I received a strong signal. I dug down to about 4 inches and out popped this gold ring. I couldn't believe my first target was gold! This is the third ring I have dug at this site, the other two being silver. I really like not having a visual id machine. If I had been using my Garrett GTI 1500, I would not have dug the ring. I usually hunt for coins and the ring would have shown as a pull tab. I hope this is a sign of the luck I will have with the Vaquero.

Congratulations Bluesky AND Warrior!

Wow! Two brand new machines and ring finds in the first few minutes...

With a Tesoro, I know it's not beginner's luck...they just work very well!
