I went out for about 20 minutes today because it was so hot!!!!!!!! But it was okay, because on my second target, it was a 1899 dime!! And in good shape too!!!

Very nice coin. In that great condition I bet it was lost in 99 or 1900. This could be just the tip of the iceberg.

Absolutely gorgeous find........

Thanks!!! I didnt try to rub off the dirt, waited till I got home before I knew the date , ran some water over it, and couldn't believe that it was that old!!

Patience is a virture. Knowing the date in the field, won't change it. You did the right thing by waiting.

Nancy and I usually carry a 35mm film container with a little soapy water in it. We get a safe pre-soak plus you can tell the date after a while too with out rubbing.

Nice find. I am jinxed on those, after 10 years of detecting i have yet to find a Barber dime. I have found 4 Barber Quarters.

Wow, now I feel very lucky! It took me about a year and a half. Keep looking, you will find one eventually!

Thanks everyone!! lolin, dirt comes off of silver very easy. All I did was run some water over it and most all of the dirt washed right off. The dirt that didn't come right off, I took a silk cloth and got it a little wet and lightly wiped it. It was just mainly dirt that was in between letters and on the edges.
